Job Description

Prek Kids Unlimited seeks a Behavior Support Specialist to join our Prek KU team. Our Prek serves 72 students with 18 students per classroom. Each classroom has a lead teacher, a teacher assistant, and a classroom assistant. As a Behavior Support Specialist you will collaborate with school professionals, families, and students to promote and maintain a safe, supportive, and effective learning environment for all students and support identified one-on-one, and small groups for behavior and academic reasons.

Essential Responsibilities

The Behavioral Support Specialist oversees the implementation of trauma-responsive, social, emotional, mental, and behavioral health education services and programs for children in Prek Kids Unlimited. The Behavioral Support Specialist provides guidance, tracks pertinent data, and offers support on mental and behavioral health services including a broad range of activities and programs to support student success and kindergarten readiness. The Specialist also provides classroom support through classroom observations, writing Behavioral Intervention Plans, offering feedback on appropriate interactions and skills, and providing developmentally appropriate resources and training for children, teachers, and parents.

  • Ensure the integrity and consistency of Prek's structure and routines;
  • Consistently role model appropriate and expected behaviors, emotions, and communication skills; Creative Curriculum is the teaching curriculum used in the classrooms
  • Teaching social skills lessons.
  • Utilize verbal de-escalation skills during crisis intervention to include the Pyramid Model, PBIS, and other verbal de-escalation techniques as well as assisting all classroom staff with implementation of PBIS
  • Utilize approved behavior management techniques including the use of a mindfulness room.
  • Participate in support/planning meetings as required. Review weekly lesson plans and provide feedback to teachers
  • Support students in reaching goals and objectives as outlined in specific plans and programs;
  • Approach families in a manner consistent with Kids Unlimited Academy's philosophy;
  • Complete and maintain all required documentation about students. Monitor data entry of objective observations for complete documentation.
  • Collaborate with directors and teachers to support the development, implementation and monitoring of child guidance plans for all identified children.
  • Work directly with Director to conduct monthly staff meetings

License/ Registration/ Certification

  • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Training is preferred. If not trained, you must be willing to be trained.
  • CPR and First Aid
  • Require a minimum of 20 hours of professional development per year

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or related field
  • Skilled in modeling/coaching appropriate and effective behavioral strategies
  • Knowledge of the development and implementation of positive behavior intervention plans
  • Outstanding interpersonal and teamwork skills; ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders
  • Minimum of three years of experience working with young children with challenging behaviors and families; experience working in early childhood settings
  • Qualified Mental Health Professionals (QMHPs) preferred
  • Strong organizational skills, including keen attention to detail and ease at managing competing demands and determining priorities independently
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, environment; adaptable when managing multiple, shifting priorities; comfortable with ambiguity
