Job Description Tempel, a Worthington Steel (NYSE:WS) owned company, is a leading global manufacturer of precision magnetic steel laminations for the motor, generator, auto and transformer industries, and beyond. We deliver precision manufacturing, metallurgical analysis, engineering, prototyping and product design, tooling, and value-added capabilities to customers via a global manufacturing footprint. The Press Operator I is responsible for manufacturing quality magnetic steel lamentation for the transformer, motor and automotive industries by operating a progressive punch press. Shift & Hours: 1st shift 6am to 2:30pm Monday through FridayPay Rate is $21.00 per hour.
  • Operates punch presses at standard rate
  • Adjusts controls on the press
  • Maintains quality specifications by inspecting parts, reading blueprints, and understanding packaging specifications
  • Documents inspections into quality tracking system and monitors quality activity on computer terminals located at each press
  • Maintains a clean, safe work environment by following all safety rules
  • Monitors and starts coils of steel
  • Wires and packages rows of laminations per packaging specifications
  • Train and mentor other employees
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Demonstrates a clear understanding of policies and procedures of operation; complies with and applies policies and procedures appropriately
  • Keeps current with and effectively applies new work methods, skills, and technologies to complete work
  • Demonstrates the willingness and competence to work in multiple functional areas

Preferred Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • QC Level 1 and 2 certified
  • Able to read blueprints and take measurements with all the appropriate instruments
  • Knowledgeable of good safety practices and quality standards
  • Good math and computer skills
Regularly works in a production environment which requires a constant alertness of safety requirements and dangers as they will work near heavy cutting and material handling equipment.

  • Must be able to lift parts and equipment which can weigh up to 50 pounds
  • Performing repetitive motions while at the punch press
  • Must be able and comfortable to work in a heavy-industrial environment
  • Must be able to walk to work locations 100% of the time
  • Must be able to frequently bend, stoop, kneel and reach below/above shoulders to access equipment for repair
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, talk, see, hear, reach, bend, and stoop.
