The Prevention Specialist will help LRADAC's Community Services Department communicate its mission by working directly with each program in the department. The ideal candidate has excellent organizational, logistical, and project management skills, as well as strong communication and writing skills for a variety of projects and diverse audiences.Position Logistics
  • 37.5-hour work week (5-day work week)
  • Routinely 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM shifts Monday-Friday
  • Some evenings and weekends hours will be required. Flex schedule as approved by supervisor.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES includes the following.
  • Assist with the development, implementation, and evaluation of training and educational programming for internal and external audiences.
  • Assess the substance use prevention education needs of audiences.
  • Develop, facilitate, and evaluate internal and external workshops and/or training courses for adult audiences on substance use education.
  • Oversee requests and volunteers for the Speaker's Bureau. This includes: assessment of training needs, logistics, speaker identification, recruitment, and orientation.
  • Market and promote all prevention education training opportunities afforded through personal facilitation and/or the Speaker's Bureau, internally to LRADAC staff and externally to community stakeholders and the general public.
  • Manage and report evaluation findings of prevention education training opportunities.
  • Oversee information dissemination by identifying appropriate information and materials to be disseminated
  • Research, ensure the relevancy and accuracy, maintain, and organize all digital and physical prevention education materials. Ensure that all materials are up-to-date and align with LRADAC's communications standards and that outdate materials are archived.
  • Manage the online library system of prevention education resources (ex: adding resources, removing old resources, creating resource descriptions, classifying resources, managing the resource inventory, etc.)
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate strategies for prevention education materials sent via electronic media, as well as in-person and traditional mail. This includes development and maintenance of community partner database and promotion of this service.
  • Create and manage the editorial calendar for the electronic newsletter, video companion and social media platform, develop its content, coordinate with communications staff for content review and dissemination, assess viewer engagement/analytics, and suggest and implement strategies for continuous improvement.
  • Identify community members and partners for resource dissemination (e.g. placement and replenishment of prevention education resources at LRADAC's Richland and Lexington offices, identification of community members and agencies to inform them of available digital and physical prevention education resources, aid persons on the identification of prevention education resources given their audience(s), make prevention education resources available to persons upon request, etc.)
  • Oversee and implement LRADAC's Problem Identification and Referral Programs to targeted audience based on referrals.
  • Provide the Tobacco Education Program (TEP) on a monthly basis to referred students from local referral sources. Work with partners to identify opportunities to increase referrals to this program, as well as prove on-site implementation, as requested.
  • Provide the Alcohol Education Program (AEP) on a monthly basis to referred students from local referral sources. Work with partners to identify opportunities to increase referrals to this program, as well as prove on-site implementation, as requested.
Marginal Duties:
  • Provide speaking engagements pertaining to LRADAC and Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs (ATOD) topics as requested.
  • Plan, organize and conduct alcohol, tobacco and other drug prevention programs in targeted areas. Conduct Needs Assessments and assist in development of strategic plans for new programming. Provide technical assistance as needed and called for.
  • Develop and implement communication plans for prevention strategies/programs using a variety of media (i.e., Facebook, Twitter, brochures, infographics). Assist in the design of flyers, forms, social media messages, and other communication materials.
  • Plan, organize and work with the Alcohol Enforcement Team Coordinator to provide Palmetto Retailers Education Program (PREP) training as needed.
  • Gather required data for program evaluation.
  • Prepare and submit required reports.
  • Serve on internal and external committees.
  • Attend all required meetings and training sessions.
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures of the Agency and the Health and Safety Committee.
Education and/or Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in human services or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Master's degree with experience in substance use prevention education preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
  • Certified as prevention specialist through the SC Association of Prevention Professionals and Advocates, or able to complete the certification process within two years of employment.
