Job Summary: As a Principal Engineer specializing in Transmission & Distribution (T&D) Planning, you will lead the strategic and technical aspects of transmission and distribution system planning, ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and sustainability of the electric grid. This fully remote position requires deep expertise in electrical engineering, grid modernization, and renewable integration, coupled with strong leadership skills to guide cross-functional teams and influence key stakeholders. Key Responsibilities:
  • Strategic Planning:
    • Lead the development and implementation of long-term transmission and distribution plans, focusing on grid reliability, capacity expansion, and integration of renewable energy sources.
    • Conduct comprehensive system studies, including load flow, short circuit, and stability analysis, to evaluate the performance of the transmission and distribution network.
    • Develop scenarios for future grid configurations considering emerging technologies, regulatory changes, and market trends.
  • Technical Leadership:
    • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to a team of engineers, ensuring best practices in T&D planning and analysis.
    • Review and approve engineering designs, studies, and reports to ensure they meet industry standards and regulatory requirements.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Operations, IT, and Regulatory Affairs, to ensure seamless integration of new projects into the existing grid infrastructure.
  • Project Management:
    • Lead multi-disciplinary projects from inception through execution, managing timelines, budgets, and resources effectively.
    • Coordinate with external stakeholders, including utilities, regulators, and consultants, to facilitate project approvals and successful implementation.
    • Oversee the preparation of detailed project documentation, including technical reports, presentations, and regulatory filings.
  • Innovation & Continuous Improvement:
    • Drive initiatives to incorporate advanced technologies, such as smart grid solutions, energy storage systems, and distributed energy resources (DERs), into T&D planning processes.
    • Identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiency gains in system planning activities.
    • Stay updated with the latest industry trends, regulatory developments, and technological advancements in transmission and distribution.
  • Stakeholder Engagement:
    • Serve as a technical expert in meetings with stakeholders, including utility companies, regulatory bodies, and community representatives.
    • Prepare and deliver presentations on planning strategies, technical findings, and project updates to executive leadership and external audiences.
    • Foster strong relationships with key industry players to facilitate collaboration and knowledge sharing.
Qualifications:
  • Education:
    • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field is required.
    • Master's degree or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a closely related discipline is preferred.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 10 years of related experience with a strong focus on electric utility systems.
    • Proven track record of leading complex engineering projects and delivering results in a high-pressure environment.
    • Extensive experience with power system analysis tools such as PSS/E, PowerWorld, ETAP, or similar software.
