Not eligible for telecommuting.Position Summary:The ESE Principal is responsible for ensuring rigorous and standards-aligned teaching and learning while establishing and maintaining a positive culture for students, staff and families. The Principal provides visionary leadership while ensuring a rigorous education for all students and ensure that students reach academic goals and feel supported socially and emotionally. The Principal manages all aspects of the school-level budgeting process, as well as efforts to drive school improvement and oversees daily school operations. The Principal ensures there is collaborative, two-way communication between families and staff and seeks out feedback from the community on ways to improve the school community. The Principal supervises and evaluates school personnel and provides regular feedback and professional learning opportunities to drive improvement.Minimum Qualifications:
  • Must possess and provide evidence of a master's degree inclusive of 20 semester hours in School Administration, Supervision, Curriculum, and School Finance. In the absence of the School Finance course work, candidates must show demonstrated experience developing and managing staff and operating budgets
  • Must possess a valid Michigan Teacher Certificate with an endorsement in at least one area of Exceptional Student Education (Special Education)
  • Must possess and provide evidence of State of Michigan Administrator Certification
  • Must be eligible for a Temporary, Continuing or Full Special Education Approval
  • Minimum of five (5) years of successful certified teaching experience with an annual rating of effective (E), or highly effective (HE) in an area of Execeptional Student Education (Special Education).
  • Must possess in-depth knowledge of adult and child learning theory.
  • Must possess in-depth knowledge of state and federal special education laws and regulations.
  • Must possess in-depth knowledge of curriculum and instruction.
  • Proven leadership or supervisory experience
  • Exemplary presentation skills, organizational skills and communication (speaking, listening, and writing) skills
  • Strong technology skills including competence in the use of technology to prepare and complete reports and communications.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current educational research and ability to translate into classroom and school practice.
  • Evidence of skills analyzing and interpreting student achievement data and utilizing that data to increase student achievement.
Essential Functions:
  • Maintain a positive learning environment that ensures the implementation of quality instruction as outlined by the current curriculum.
  • Create a shared vision of high quality teaching and learning.
  • Align standards, instructional strategies, assessment, instructional tools/resources, and professional development to ensure instructional program coherence.
  • Develop an academic plan based on a continuous improvement model; conduct a comprehensive review of quantitative and qualitative data relative to teaching and learning and use to support development of academic plan; create benchmark growth measures to monitor progress toward meeting performance goals.
  • Conduct regular formative and summative staff evaluations to ensure continuous improvement in teaching and learning and maintain high levels of accountability.
  • Create the necessary structures and systems required to support successful implementation of the instructional program.
  • Create and maintain a safe, effective, and clean learning environment.
  • Develop and manage a school budget, aligned to the school academic plan, that reflects District, State, and Federal mandates.
  • Create a formative and summative evaluation process to monitor student progress.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive professional development program based on teacher instructional practice and student learning needs.
  • Effectively coordinate, supervise, and manage relations with parents/families, the immediate school and the broader external community.
  • Acquire and effectively manage resources outside of district allotted support.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
