Harlem Children's Zone (HCZ) Promise Academy – a top-performing K-12 charter school within HCZ's cradle-to-career pathway of comprehensive services – seeks a Principal to join our Promise Academy Charter School team!The Principal will bring a passion for the mission of HCZ Promise Academy: to get all our scholars to and through college. The ideal candidate cares deeply about children, respects the culture of Harlem's residents, and is eager to make an impact in Harlem and beyond.The Principal will serve as the instructional leader, responsible for managing policies, regulations, and procedures to ensure that all students are supervised in a safe learning environment that meets the approved curricula and mission of the school. The Principal is responsible for ensuring both teaching and administrative staff are properly advised in curriculum development, use of materials and equipment, and implementation of state and federal programs and procedures to foster a productive learning environment. The ideal candidate will have a passion for the mission of HCZ Promise Academy, a demonstrated track record of success moving students and using data to inform the big picture, and an understanding and respect for the families and community of Central Harlem. This role serves as a member of HCZ's senior leadership team and reports to the Deputy Superintendent of Promise Academy Charter Schools.Minimum QualificationsMaster's degree with 5 years of experience is required; must have at least 3 years of experience in an administrative/leadership capacityMust have a valid New York State School Building Leader (SBL) or School District Leader (SDL) certificationWho you areMust be able to demonstrate successful teaching experience and/or administrative experienceExtensive coursework experience in curriculum developmentExcellent oral and written communication skillsWhat you'll doServe as the school educational leader who oversees curriculum development and implementation of state and federal programs and proceduresEstablish and promote practices that ensure the school's academic standards are rigorous, transparent, measurable, and aligned with NY State Learning StandardsInterpret and enforce provisions of state education codes, rules, and regulations of state education boardsManage, evaluate, and supervise effective and transparent procedures for the operation and functioning of the school consistent with the mission and values of HCZParticipate in training programs and conferences dealing with new classroom procedures, instructional materials and equipment, and teaching aidesOversee professional development activitiesMonitor the coordination and articulation of the school's curriculum and instruction across and between grade levelsWork with administrators and teaching staff to develop and implement curriculum and instructionDevelop effective internal assessment systems and toolsConsistently review and interpret data related to student performance and achievementDesign and implement the school scheduleObserve teachers and meet with them to provide feedback as necessaryConsult with administrators regarding instructional resources and needsResearch, evaluate, and improve curricula, instructional methods, and materials for school systemsAttend teacher meetings, support teachers, and facilitate positive staff dynamicsCommunicate effectively with students, parents, and colleaguesPerform other duties as assignedScheduleMonday-FridayBenefitsAs a member of the Harlem Children's Zone team, you will join a supportive and inclusive community dedicated to helping children, families — and our staff — thrive.
