Job Description

We are revolutionizing the treatment for cancers through immunotherapy through novel breakthrough technology. We have developed and launched best in class CAR-T therapy Yescarta, currently curing patients from previously intractable b-cell malignancies. We are using our expertise to apply our success to other indications, and you can help!

We are seeking an individual to join our Cell Therapy research Center in Foster City. You will have the opportunity to work in a fast-paced and highly collaborative environment to support a growing R&D portfolio, to build an organization centered on cutting-edge technology, and to develop models based on complex high-dimensional research and clinical data sets. As translational scientist, you will work closely with the discovery research, clinical development, and product development teams.

You will use current experimental methodologies used in the biological space, including high-throughput genomics and proteomics technologies as well as predictive modeling with experience in statistical analysis and bioinformatics algorithms. You will synthesize scientific questions into a coherent research effort and communicate scientific findings across the different research functions.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead projects aimed at target Identification and Validation mining and integrating large multi-omics data sets, including community available datasets (e.g., TCGA, AC-ICAM, TARGET, GTEx, cbioportal, DbGaP, others) and data generated from Kite clinical trials, in vivo and in vitro experiments.
  • Perform high-dimensional analyses and interpretation of large multi-omics datasets including spatial transcriptomics and proteomics to dissect tumor-immune interactions conducive to differential outcome.
  • Work closely with research and cross-functional teams to jointly advance the research, development and improvement of our CAR T-cell pipelines.
  • Coordinate deliverables jointly with clinicians, immunologist, molecular biologists, IT, commercial and other departments.

Basic Qualifications

Doctorate and 5+ years of scientific experience

OR

Master's and 8+ years of scientific experience

OR

Bachelor's and 10+ years of scientific experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Immunology or a closely related field and 5+ years of post-doctoral academic or industry experience.
  • Full proficiency in R and/or Python, experience in Linux environments and cloud computing systems and the development of statistical methods and algorithms.
  • Proficiency building and maintaining large scale bioinformatics analysis pipelines using AWS.
  • Deep knowledge of cancer biology and cancer immunology.
  • Hands-on experience with the bioinformatics analysis of data from NGS and flow cytometry.
  • Hands-on experience applying computational tools to study cancer mutations and T cell immunity.
  • Hands-on experience in the analysis of bulk transcriptomic, single cell transcriptomics and spatial transcriptomics using standard pipelines for cancer genomic datasets.
  • Strong understanding of statistics and the ability to generate robust statistical models for predicting outcomes in multidimensional data.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • A proactive, self-motivated and ambitious person with a strong work ethic, ability to work in a dynamic environment and able to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Experience in cancer immunology research as substantiated by first authorship in leading journals.

The salary range for this position is: $191,335.00 - $247,610.00. Kite considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package. Benefits include company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans.
