Overview

A family in Woodside, California, seeks a skilled Private Chef to oversee meal preparation and garden management. The Chef will be responsible for menu planning, grocery shopping, budgeting, sourcing local ingredients - including those from the family s farm near the primary residence, and preparing meals for the principals, their children, and larger family gatherings.

Responsibilities include meal planning and grocery shopping for 3 young children and occasional meals for the adults in the home. The ideal candidate will possess experience in vegan cooking, organizational prowess, and a warm demeanor suitable for a family environment. They should excel in communicating and coordinating with landscaping teams for garden produce and demonstrate the ability to manage the kitchen efficiently.

The perfect candidate is someone who can adapt to the family's dietary preferences and meal schedules, especially for the children. They should prioritize using fresh, organic ingredients from the family's farm and local suppliers.

You should be able to make delicious, nutritionally balanced dishes for every meal that the whole family will enjoy. You should be creative, flexible, innovative, passionate about your craft, and enjoy performing your work with a warm, empathetic, and service-focused attitude.

You will be expected to exercise considerable confidentiality and discretion, as both are paramount.

Expectations

• Culinary experience, focusing on children's cooking and vegan meal preparation expertise.
• Knowledge of fresh, local, and organic ingredients, with the ability to source ingredients from farmers markets, Whole Foods, and CSAs.
• Previous experience working in a private home environment, demonstrating adaptability and a service-oriented mindset.
• Light gardening experience preferred, with a willingness to assist in garden maintenance as needed.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with household staff and family members.
• Respect for privacy and discretion, with a commitment to maintaining confidentiality in all aspects of the role.
• Positive attitude, calm demeanor, and willingness to contribute positively to the home's energy.
• Ability to work Monday to Friday, 8am-5pm, with flexibility for occasional travel and evening events.

Responsibilities

• Prepare daily meals for three young children, including accommodating the dietary needs of infant twins on purees and a 1.5-year-old with a basic meal schedule.
• Collaborate with the family to adjust meal plans according to the children's evolving needs.
• Maintain kitchen cleanliness and organization and ensure stock replenishment of dishes, cookware, and refrigerator.
• Handle grocery shopping, including purchasing baby essentials and provisions for parents.
• Travel with the family as required, providing culinary services for the entire household during trips lasting a week or longer.
• Flexibility to cook for both family and staff, contingent upon workload assessment.
• Proficiency in preparing vegan cuisine to accommodate the husband's dietary preferences.
• Coordinate with the landscaping team to utilize fresh produce from on-site planter boxes and prioritize local sourcing when available.
• Prepare meals aligned with the family's preference for simple, unpretentious dining experiences, akin to the popular Bluestone Lane Bowls.
