Needed for day and night 12 hour shiftsSUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIESPRN, as needed - Provides direct care to patients in the Hospice Residence including, baths, vitals, back rubs, oral hygiene, shampoos, changing bed linen, housekeeping and laundry.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES (other duties may be assigned)
  • Maintains the confidentiality of patient and employee information at all times, both at work and off duty, and after the termination of employment. According to the agencies Notice of Privacy Practices and HIPAA regulations.
  • Is knowledgeable and functional in computer applications including database, word processing, spreadsheet, and e-mail system as required for the execution of the job.
  • Knowledge of Hospice concepts and philosophy
  • Answers signal lights, bells, or intercom system to determine patient's needs.
  • Cooks meals in quantities according to menu, standardized recipes, and patient census, within health code, and ensures all food is maintained at appropriate temperature per regulations and ensures utmost quality with a minimum of waste.
  • Operates various kitchen equipment including, but not limited to, steamer, coffee pot, ovens, dishwasher, etc., according to manufacturer's guidelines and appropriate rules and regulations.
  • Follows proper procedure for labeling and storage of refrigerated and frozen food.
  • Cleans and maintains serving areas, equipment and utensils according to health code
  • Serves and collect food trays and feeds patients requiring help.
  • Changes bed linens, runs errands, directs visitors, and answers telephone.
  • Takes and records temperature, blood pressure, pulse and respiration rates, and food and fluid intake and output, as directed.
  • Perform personal care needs according to care plan attending to patient's needs promptly. If unable to perform a task, reports to the residence RN immediately.
  • Meet safety needs of patient using equipment safely and properly.
  • Perform personal care including baths, back rubs, oral hygiene, shampoos, and changing bed linen.
  • Assist in dressing and undressing patients.
  • Provide proper care and observation of patient's skin to prevent breakdown.
  • Report patient's condition and significant changes to the resident RN
  • Assist in ambulation and exercise as instructed by the resident RN or therapist.
  • Offer and assist with toileting including use of bedpans, urinals, or bedside commodes.
  • Provide assistance as required with laundry needs.
  • Perform range of motion and other simple procedures as an extension of therapy services as ordered.
  • Keep patient's living area clean and orderly.
  • Adhere to the organization's documentation and care procedures and standards of personal and professional conduct. Follow Standard Precautions.
  • Assist the patient/family/caregiver and other team members in providing continuity of care including discharge planning.
  • Participate in continuing education to meet state requirements and other job related training. The CENA is responsible for completing 12 hours of in-service training within the period of January to November each year.
  • Applies the principles of Total Quality Management (TQM) consistent with the job expectations.
  • Work in a team environment within the agency and professional discipline.
  • Performs variety of miscellaneous duties as requested.
  • Completes appropriate charting in either written or electronic format.

  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • The employee is occasionally required to walk and sit.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
