This position will report directly to the Minerals IT/OT Service Delivery Leader at our Patterson, GA location.The Process Control Technician is responsible for maintaining an efficient computer-based process control system and promoting and optimizing its use through ongoing development. The role is also responsible for maintaining, adjusting, and repairing control system and related equipment.The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Ensure all work is performed within company, state, and federal regulations, standards, statutes, policies, and procedures
  • Maintain and repair process control systems (e.g. PLC, HMI) and peripherals to support production demand for multiple 24/7 manufacturing processes
  • Provide technical assistance to Electrical/Instrumentation, Operations and Technical in troubleshooting and incident investigation of process control related issues, including documentation and tracking of systemic issues
  • Work with Electrical/Instrumentation Technicians, Operations, Technical and Engineering to ensure successful installation, checkout, and startup of process control related projects and interlock checks.
  • Perform backup, patching, antivirus update and inventory control of all process control systems to meet corporate disaster recovery plan and cyber security compliance requirements
  • Implement vendor's corrective actions and/or recommendations that are applicable to site process control systems
  • Follow site management of change requirements for and maintain accurate configuration documentation of all process control systems
  • Configure process control systems and other process control related equipment based upon guidance from Process Control Engineers and Operations to perform manufacturing tasks safely, along with design and implementation of process control change requests related to logic and control strategies
  • Identify issues causing down time events. Initiate appropriate actions to maximize plant availability and minimize issues by enlisting support services from within and outside the department
  • Contribute to improvements in processing plant efficiencies through plant process improvements, day to day troubleshooting and long-term problem solving with the installed process control system
  • Supports ongoing technical advances in the process control system by staying up to date with latest technology and developments with respect to process control
  • Support maintenance planner in the preventative maintenance program for instrumentation equipment
  • Maintain calibration performance and records for instrumentation
  • Support process control and instrumentation requirements of plant upgrades
  • Work with site-based Electricians in the fault finding of instruments and repair / replace as required
  • Retain the integrity of the process control system through the maintenance of up-to-date image copies of the database and performs system maintenance checks and run time repairs
  • Maintain process control system hardware and spares
  • Improve system familiarity for relevant operations and maintenance personnel through the provision of training
  • Improve faultfinding and understanding by fully documenting the system software
  • Document completed work in SAP Work Management Process
The following is required for this role:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent GED and industry experience with relevant certifications
  • Certificate in Programmable Logic Control (PLC) or equivalent experience
  • At least 3 years of operational experience in an industrial plant
  • Computer hardware skills
  • A valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools such as Excel, Word, or PowerPoint
The following is preferred for this role:
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field
  • Electrical certificate
  • Knowledge and experience working with the SCADA (system control and data acquisition) systems and data historians.
  • Knowledge of telemetry systems, automatic process control techniques, and fiber optic and ethernet networks
