Process Safety Engineer
Austin, TX
6 month contract with possible extension
$60/HR+ (Depending on experience)
Responsibilities:
- Leads factory engineering technical deep dives & options analysis & risk assessments for green field and brown field engineering projects.
- Gathers and develops a deep understanding of stakeholder requirements needed to identify potential hazards and operability issues in early factory development.
- Defines & effectively communicates factory design safety & hazard prioritization for internal and external factory engineering teams.
- Drives scoping & implementation of engineering safety/ hazard mitigation design strategies
- Owns execution of high-quality risk assessments & risk management deliverables
- Facilitate risk assessments and work with external consultants/ partners as needed to conduct risks assessments such as HAZOP, What-IF, PHA, DHA, and other risk assessment methods
- Lead efforts for modeling scenarios and working with external consultants/ partners as needed to conduct modeling such as CFD, FDS, PHAST, Canary, iPRISM, ALOHA, and other risk modeling tools.
- Leads follow-through reviews/ coordination to ensure identified risks & mitigation efforts have been included in engineering design.
- Supports technical studies such as feasibility and value engineering exercises related to safety & risk management.
- Assist in Hazardous Chemical management program as required.
Requirements:
- B.S. in Engineering or equivalent
- Experience working with multi-disciplinary teams and engineering firms to identify and implement PSM engineering requirements.
- Full understanding of core engineering disciplines and ability to demonstrate skills to manage and facilitate engineering resources.
- Experience designing manufacturing facilities, Chemical Process, Battery, Oil & Gas, or Semiconductor.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills with the ability to understand complex problems and distill the message into a clear plan.
- PHA/HAZOP/DHA/What-If facilitation or technical evaluation experience.
- Dispersion analysis, flammability analysis, consequence modeling, combustible dust hazards, reactive hazard analyses & evaluation.
