A manufacturing client is looking to hire a Process Safety Management Environmental Engineer in Sumter, SC. This person will be responsible for the administration of the High Hazard and Process Safety Management programs and will need to collaborate all local management leadership and associates to enhance, develop and sponsor programs intended to implement and promote the continuing safety of the Sumter, SC location with a focus on high hazard operation and environmental compliance.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for development, execution, and oversight of Process Safety Management programs for Sumter, SC classified as working with High Hazards such as ionized radiation, compressed dust, and flammable materials. Track and report performance metrics and engage site operations leaders on safety matters to ensure a strong culture of associate safety and environmental management.
- Conducts technical reviews and determines impacts for process changes, capital projects, new product development, and equipment modifications for facilities and operations.
- Domain expert for the OSHA Process Safety Management compliance program.
- Responsible for development and review of site Risk Management Programs (RMPs) including reporting requirements and audits.
- Hosts or assists with any announced or unannounced regulatory inspections related to EPA, OSHA, PSM, RMP, or other.
- As needed, fulfills the role of project manager, ensuring project goals are met within time frame and budget allotted and supervises construction project activity.
- Acts as liaison between sites and Global Sterilization group; providing project and program support.
- Acts as EHS liaison and technical reviewer for all Sumter expansion or other capital projects involving high hazards and environmental compliance.
- Assists in seeking out and evaluating new technologies for chemical detection, control, management, and automation.
- Conducts/Leads process safety hazard analysis/hazard and operability studies (PHA/HAZOP) for applicable processes and any future process changes. Responsible to ensure compliance with all OSHA PSM and EPA RMP regulations for BD facility programs. Additionally conducts hazard reviews for all process controls, projects, and any process changes for Sumter site.
- Tracks, reviews and/or authors all required governmental compliance reports. Ensures timely submission as required by the respective agency or BD permit documentation.
- Assists local teams to help develop programs to promote a strong safety culture.
- Assists with site security and life safety system compliance and provides technical review of emergency planning programs and procedures.
- Acts as liaison with local emergency response including police, fire, or other emergency services as required.
- Conducts detailed incident analysis and investigation for all severe incidents and provides relevant bulletins/communications to division as needed.
- Conducts internal/external safety and environmental audits as required.
- Reviews all corporate technical standards for applicability to the local operations, assists with any gap analyses and continuous improvement efforts.
- Keeps up to date on all current and pending environmental, health and safety legislation and regulations as well as insurance company requirements. Identifies all applicable laws (Corporate, Country, Federal, State, and Local) and ensures facilities have procedures and programs in place to adhere to these regulatory requirements.
- RSO (Radiation Safety Officer) for site.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Management, Safety and Health or related degree.
- 5-7years of experience managing safety or safety programs at the site level with a minimum of 5 years working with hazardous substances.
- Experience designing and implementing strategies/programs/processes that support a business strategy.
- Experience leading PHAs and/or HAZOPs and conducting Project Evaluations.
- Experience in lab, manufacturing, sterilization, and warehouse environments.
- Proficient in OSHA, PSM, EPA Regulations, Building Codes, experience preparing and submitting environmental permits and forms.
- Proficient and experienced in conducting PSM audits preferred.
- Proficient and experienced in developing and implementing high hazard and environmental management systems.
- Experience with environmental permitting, preferably US Title V or similar.

- CSP, CIH, or CHMM Certification preferred to ensure continuing education of current EHS trends and knowledge.

Base Salary - USD $99,000 to $110,000
