Responsibilities:

Job Description:

  • New Product development including engineering concept, design analysis, calculations and problem solving.
  • Conduct form/fit feasibility studies on new product concepts.
  • Address product design issues with respect to tooling and manufacturing with other team members.
  • Provides technical support to other departments.
  • Works directly on the development of prototype parts.
  • Responsible for CAD design and changes.
  • Assure technical quality and design process rigor in execution of all assigned tasks.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent written/verbal communication skills and superior interpersonal skills for interaction with all levels of personnel and contacts within and outside IWT.
  • Recent graduate with B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, preferably with a concentration in plastics part design and molding.
  • Proven creative skills in product design and problem solving through coursework or personal interests.
  • Must have at least 5+ years designing 3D (physical) products that have a high percentage of plastic materials.
  • Hands-on physical skills associated with product development extremely important. Experience with working in a shop environment and ability to make simple prototypes highly desirable.
  • CAD experience required; SolidWorks preferred. Must have proven skills at generating designs quickly, efficiently and in a manner which facilitates future changes.
  • Experience with a range of materials (particularly various plastics) and processes (injection molding, thermoforming).
  • Must possess a comfort level with (and interest in) working in a very fast paced product development environment where ideation and product design rapidly evolve.
  • Experience with managing smaller design projects, with ability/aspiration to move toward management of more complex projects.
  • FEA experience a plus.
  • Expertise with MS Office suite.
