Summary: The Production Manager plans, leads, organizes, and directs the operations of the shop floor as it relates to production, shipping/receiving, maintenance, and grounds.This incumbent oversees all production, product and process improvements, safety, quality, employee relations, and customer service.The Production Manager is the shop floor liaison with the sales and quality team for all product related issues and improvements in areas of assigned responsibility.Responsibilities:1.Establishes leadership to area of assigned responsibility,to support the development and implementation of programs regarding safety, employment, labor relations, management training, manpower planning, technical expertise, and customer relations.2.Assures all production orders are completed on schedule, per budget, and at the quality levels developed by management to satisfy the requirements of internal and external customers.3.Manages the development and training of reporting personnel in the area of manufacturing processes, J.I.T., quality assurance, employee relations, safety and continuous improvement.4.Works with materials to ensure achievement of proper inventory turns as defined by support sales service objectives.5.Manages the weekly production planning forecasts based on customer input and information from the Plant Manager, Customer Service, Materials Management, Engineering, and Sales.6.Ensures the implementation and maintenance of a quality system that ensures metrics are met and 100% on-time delivery the first time.7.Works closely with key customers, coordinating quality standards and problem resolution between Quanex and customers through personal contact.8.Understands annual budgets, goals and objectives and implements programs for achievement of those goals.Responsible for control of all costs in the areas of assigned responsibility.9.Recommends and justifies capital requests for approval. 10.Provide leaderships and direction in the implementation of management system techniques throughout area of responsibility.11.Recommends and implements approved changes in production methods and technical changes to equipment to improve efficiency in manufacturing processes and meet customer demands.12.Provides constant interaction with external customers, managing their requirements in service and delivery.Will regularly assess the customer needs, along with the needs of Quanex as it relates to the customer providing feedback and recommendations to upper management. 13.Prepares and provides reporting requirements regarding area's performance. 14.Uses or may come in contact with Personal Health Information (PHI) or Individually Identifiable Health Information (IIHI) in duties performed.Follows all established procedures to maintain confidentiality of PHI and IIHI.15.Supports plant initiatives and directives regarding safety, quality, production, and continuous improvement.Education and Experience:•A degree in Engineering/Business Administration with 7-10 years of experience in manufacturing and or engineering role and or equivalent combination of education and experience or equivalent work experience in a managerial role within manufacturing is required.•Experience in production, production control, engineering and supervision essential.•Must have thorough knowledge of product offerings and product/process capabilities.•Must have fundamental understanding and experience with lean manufacturing.•ERP/Scheduling knowledge and experience.Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:•Ability to for implementing strategies.•Must have strong communication skills, verbal and written, interpersonal skills•Must have supervisory skills, able to direct, lead and inspire individuals and teams.•Have a high degree of creative and independent thinking is required, along with the ability to effectively transform ideas into functional concepts or solutions.•Must have excellent project management skills.Physical Requirements:•Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. •Prolonged periods of standing and walking on production floor.•Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. at times.•Flexibility in schedule in order to communicate and have visibility with all shifts to make sure expectations are being met.
