This role supports the Site Manager in managing day-to-day plant activities.Essential FunctionsSafety & Compliance: Enforce safety, environmental, and quality regulations. Maintain high standards for regulatory compliance, monitor industry trends, and address key areas of governing body emphasis.Team Leadership: Direct and coordinate the activities of employees in product production. Set performance goals for productivity, safety, and quality metrics. Provide feedback, resolve personnel issues, and recommend hiring and promotion decisions in alignment with corporate policies.Operational Oversight: Plan and establish work schedules to meet production goals. Collaborate with other managers and supervisors to coordinate inter-departmental operations. Conduct daily production and training huddles, ensuring adherence to safety protocols.Process Optimization: Lead process improvements and establish production efficiency goals. Review and update master batch records and operational procedures. Work with quality assurance to continuously improve production processes.Data & Reporting: Maintain accurate operational data, such as time, production, and cost records, and prepare management reports on production results.Equipment & Quality Management: Coordinate with site leadership to address defects or equipment malfunctions. Oversee quality investigations, track action items, and hold employees accountable to quality practices and cGMP standards.Training & Development: Train production personnel on equipment operation, process chemistries, and safety practices. Continuously enhance training programs and ensure standard operating procedures (SOPs) are established and followed.Process Safety Management (PSM): Ensure compliance with PSM regulations, including maintaining accurate engineering drawings, procedures, and employee training. Conduct regular PSM reviews and updates.Capital Projects: Establish production-related capital project priorities, justify project investments, and ensure successful project completion. Serve as a liaison for production in all project-related activities.Product Development: Plan and develop new products and production processes to support continuous growth.Budgeting & Pricing: Assist in developing production budgets and support the sales team in creating pricing models based on yields, cycle times, and efficiencies.Emergency Response: Act as a backup incident commander in the absence of the Site Manager during critical events.Team Collaboration: Build strong interdepartmental relationships to ensure timely communication and problem resolution. Represent the production team during customer audits, safety reviews, and regulatory inspections.New Business & Process Commercialization: Oversee the launch of new processes, including workforce planning, procedure development, and technology transfer. Participate in new business evaluations, including safety and capital investment design.QualificationsEducation:Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, another engineering discipline, or Chemistry.Experience:Five or more years of experience in manufacturing.Five or more years of manufacturing supervisory experience.Five or more years of experience in ISO 9001, food/GLP/GMP-regulated process manufacturing environments.Eight or more years of experience in at least two operations functional areas, such as Production or Logistics.Key Competencies:Strong leadership and team development skills.In-depth knowledge of plant processes, chemistries, unit operations, and lab analytics.Proven ability to optimize processes and drive continuous improvement initiatives.Experience with safety investigations, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance.Interested in hearing more?
