Production Supervisor - West Fraser : Job Details

Lead and Leadership:

• Supervise, train and manage planer mill staff, including machine operators, laborers, and maintenance personnel.
• Assign tasks and schedule shifts to ensure optimal productivity and coverage.
• Act as supervisor on shift when necessary.

Operational Management:

• Oversee the operation of planer mill machinery, ensuring proper setup, operation, and maintenance.
• Coordinate with the sawmill and other departments to ensure efficient workflow and supply of rough lumber.
• Monitor production output to ensure it meets quality and quantity standards.

Quality Control:

• Inspect lumber for quality, identify defects, and ensure compliance with industry standards.
• Implement and maintain quality control processes to ensure consistent product quality.
• Work with the quality assurance team to address any quality issues and implement corrective actions.

Maintenance and Safety:

• Ensure proper maintenance and operation of machinery and equipment.
• Implement and enforce safety protocols to ensure a safe working environment.
• Conduct regular safety meetings and training sessions.

Administrative Duties:

• Maintain accurate production records and prepare reports on production metrics, inventory levels, and operational data.
• Assist in presenting KPI data.

Continuous Improvement:

• Identify opportunities for process improvements and assist in implementing changes to enhance efficiency and productivity.
• Stay updated on industry trends, new technologies, and best practices.
• Collaborate with management to develop and implement strategic plans for the planer mill.

What you will need:

Education:

• High school diploma or equivalent; a degree or certification in a related field is a plus.

Skills:

• Strong leadership and team management skills.
• Excellent knowledge of planer mill machinery and operations.
• Proficient in quality control and production processes.
• Effective communication and people skills.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to stand, walk, and perform physical labor for extended periods.
• Ability to lift and carry heavy objects, up to fifty pounds.

Work Environment:

• Requires working in a mill environment, which may include exposure to noise, dust, and varying temperatures.
• Safety gear such as helmets, gloves, and eye protection are required.

Experience:

• At least two years of supervision in a production environment.
