Covia is looking for a dynamic Production Supervisor who will have a positive impact on the Operations team at its Fort Smith, AR location. As a Production Supervisor, you will report to the Operations Manager and will directly supervise the production and shipping operations to ensure that output is maximized at the lowest cost while maintaining safety and quality requirements.This position is 3 days of 3 days off night shift 6pm - 6am The successful incumbent will have the following Key Accountabilities:
- Accept personal responsibility for your own safety by working to maintain a safe work environment and evaluating all tasks utilizing the Covia SLAM (Stop, Look, Analyze, Manage) risk protocol. Report all near miss incidents, unsafe acts, or situations and injuries immediately.
- Administer all facets of the safety and health policies while adhering to the SLAM risk method within the sphere of all tasks.
- Advise the Operations Manager of potential problems that might affect the plant's ability to produce in a safe and efficient manner.
- Conduct regular safety meetings and weekly toolbox safety talks with shift employees.
- Directly supervise production activities which include:
- Receiving of Raw Materials via truck or rail
- Raw Material and Product Flow within Plant
- Chemical Additive Flow and Inventory
- Kiln Operation
- Screening
- Ball Mill Operations
- Raw material and finished product quality sampling
- Product storage
- Bulk and Bagged Loading and Shipping
- Maintenance
- QC
- Provide assignments and instructions to employees to ensure continuity of tasks and efforts from shift to shift.
- Devise production schedules to fill all orders on time, while minimizing cost and maximizing production.
- Maintain product quality standards in the applicable areas of responsibility.
- Initiate and follow-up on maintenance requests.
- Identify, administer, and/or recommend necessary training needs for the plant operations personnel.
- Monitor manpower requirements and recommend changes or improvements.
- Ensure good housekeeping and safe work areas throughout active plant production area.
- Report issues of concern to the Plant Management immediately.
- Collect, check, and forward all necessary labor and operating reports.
- Maintain an accurate physical inventory of finished goods.
- Regularly initiate or participate on Continuous Improvement Teams.
- Work closely with Customer Service to schedule shipments.
- Maintain open communications with direct reports and management, both orally and by written reports.
- Become proficient in Covia IFS platform which is a cloud-based enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution that integrate data and processes across multiple departments and locations. It is used for asset (work orders and history), project and supply chain management.
- Handle coaching and discipline within the production department.
- Monitor and maintain sites quality and EH&S standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
The successful incumbent will have the following Minimum Qualifications:
- A minimum of 2 years production and shipping experience is required.
- The ideal candidate will be a leader with prior experience supervising in an industrial or mineral processing environment.
- Exhibit a team focus and the ability to achieve results through others.
- Preference given to candidates with Kiln or Ball Mill production experience.
- Preference given to candidates that have a bachelor's degree in engineering, science, or technical field.
