ResponsibilitiesOBXtek is hiring for a Production Support Specialist (multimedia) at The Defense Language Institute, Foreign Language Center located at the Presidio of Monterey, Monterey, California.DLI provides resident language courses in fourteen (14) languages and dialects for more than 3,000 resident students taught and supported by approximately 2,000 faculty and staff annually.This position is part of a Federal contract to provide specific services to DLIFLC in the Curriculum Development division. The contract supports several programs: 1) DLIFLC resident courses delivered in both print and digital formats, 2) DLIFLC non-resident courses offered at various language training detachments across the world, and 3) Training programs for faculty and staff developed by DLIFLC's support organizations.The Production Support Specialist (PSS) contributes to editing, design, and layout for print and digital materials, and provides multimedia creation support. We are looking for an enthusiastic, dependable team player who is passionate about grammar, design, and producing quality educational products.Substantively edit, copyedit, and proofread print and digital documents to ensure correct usage of grammar, punctuation, spelling, instructional directions, and native English translations of target language materials.Write and prepare instructional manuals and how-to guides; evaluate internal procedures and implement/document processes that support and improve business practices.Design and format traditional print, digital, and web-based content, using tools such as MS Word, Adobe Acrobat, InDesign, and DLIFLC-proprietary authoring tools OR work independently and collaboratively with Subject Matter Experts (SME) and other educational professionals to create audio, video, and other media-based instructional materials.Embed or link audio, video, and other media in MS Word and Adobe PDF documents.Incorporate culturally appropriate materials/visual aids/custom artwork & illustrations, as well as manipulation of photos/graphics in creating visually appealing content for both traditional and online delivery.May occasionally be asked to work on special projects such as Language Day brochures, DLI published journals, and similar promotional materials.The ideal applicant must be able to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, multicultural government environment and effectively manage projects, tasks, and assignments to meet deadlines.Work site for this position is located in Monterey, CA. All hours on contract are performed on site between the hours of 7:45-4:45.Salary Range: $55,000 - $65,000 per yearQualifications3+ years of experience editing English content for grammar and accuracy.2+ years of technical/instructional writing experience.2+ years of experience designing and developing print or digital materials (preferably for educational/training purposes) OR 2+ years of experience designing and creating audio, video, or other media-based materials.S. CitizenMust be able to pass a background check and maintain the necessary level of security requirement status for the location of the requesting unit (National Agency Check - NAC-1, DLIFLC's background check, or higher security checks - SC) as needed.Able to reliably commute to work site or planning to relocate before starting work.Applicants must be a native English speaker with excellent written and verbal communication skills and should be able to provide English editing support for educational/training materials as needed.Must have experience as a content editor and possess the ability to quickly decipher and reorganize information that might seem disjointed into a meaningful and stylistically appropriate form; efficiently manage the work of two or more activities or projects simultaneously; attend to detail; interact in a fast-paced, professional, and multicultural work environment; and produce professional quality, learner-centric materials for final publication; and meet deadlines.Basic understanding of how to create or edit multimedia elements like audio and video.Proactive, organized, with acute attention to accuracy and detail, and strong time management skills.PreferredBachelor's degree in a related field.Experience working in a Learning Management System (LMS) or Content Management System (CMS).Ability to create custom artwork (sketch/draw/design) concept pieces for inclusion in traditional textbooks and/or video (animating stills images).Experience with UNICODE and complex foreign language (CJK, right-to-left, Latin, Cyrillic, etc.) formatting/display in both Print and Web environments.Ability to manipulate HTML/CSS to ensure web-based materials present professionally.Set up and record audio or video sessions; create design ideas using computer-based design tools; create final products comprised of motion graphics, video, and audio using tools such as Adobe Premiere, After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator, Adobe Audition, Audacity, etc.Bonus: Experience teaching a Foreign Language or English as a Second Language or developing language teaching/testing materials.Security ClearanceNational Agency Check with Local Agency Check and Credit Check (NACLC)Company InformationHeadquartered in McLean, Virginia and founded in 2009, OBXtek is a fast-growing leader in the government contracting field.
