Working Title Production Team Leader Role Title Non-Classified Location Charlottesville - 540 Job Description The mission of the Virginia Industries for the Blind (VIB ) is to employ and develop Virginians who are Blind, Visually Impaired or Deaf Blind to achieve their desired level of employment through the manufacture and delivery of quality products and services.

We are seeking someone to serve as group leader to assist with the production process and ensure orders ship on time. Duties include assembling, preparing and completing various textile products for production which require the use of an industrial sewing machine while keeping produced items within required tolerances. Check in-process products for quality defects to ensure all completed product meets 100% quality standards. Cutting fabric for all type of production on time. Working with production supervisor to complete daily production goals based on delivery schedules. Assist in counting and storage of materials for safety stock.

Minimum Qualifications Ability to operate industrial sewing machines; cut fabrics using manual and electrical devices; exercise good hand/foot coordination; correct errors and work independently; adjust production decisions under tight deadlines. Requires long periods of sitting or standing with mild lifting, bending and stretching

Demonstrated leadership skills, good organizational skills and skill in communicating. Familiar with computers and have ability to read, understand and interpret production schedules on MS Excel spreadsheets. High school degree or its equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications Prefer several years of experience with Textile, sewing, cutting fabrication.

Special Requirements

VIB is an AbilityOne Program participating agency, affiliated with National Industries for the Blind. As such, VIB is legally required to fill at least 75% of its direct labor positions with people who qualify as legally blind. An individual whose central visual acuity does not exceed 20/200 in the better eye with correcting lenses, or whose visual acuity is greater than 20/200 but is accompanied by a limitation in the fields of vision such that the widest diameter of the visual subtends an angle no greater than 20 degrees is considered legally blind. This position is a direct labor role. While all qualified applicants are encouraged to apply, applicants who are legally blind will receive preference if they are otherwise qualified for the role.
