Job SummaryThe BFS Professional Coder will be primarily responsible for all financial related functions including, but not limited to, patient registration, CPT, ICD10 coding and charge entry for the physician practices. The goal of the Professional Coder is to monitor and review medical records in order to ensure the accuracy of medical coding, including appropriate completion and documentation of physician signatures and proper coding of all diagnoses and procedures upon completion of a certified coder course. Acts as a physician resource on E&M and coding guidelines. Provides review of medical records for providers with feedback. Thorough understanding of CMS/Medicare regulations as well as technical knowledge of ICD-9 and CPT classification systems. Assumes responsibility to maintain awareness of current rules and regulations of payers and general knowledge of billing compliance.Experience
  • One year of physician office experience preferred.
  • Understanding of both medical and business components of healthcare operations.
  • Physician charge entry experience required.
  • Insurance experience preferred.
  • Computer skills and data entry experience required.
  • Clerical and typing experience required.
  • Strong knowledge of CPT and ICD - 10 coding required.
  • Knowledge of Meditech computer systems preferred.
Education
  • High School diploma required.
  • Associates Degree in Business preferred.
  • Must complete medical coding certification within 6 months of employment.
  • Medical Terminology required within 3 months of employment.
License & Certifications
  • Certified professional coder required.
Additional Requirements
  • Highly organized, self-motivated, detail oriented and energetic team player.
  • Willingness to attend and successfully complete continuing education program to test for coding certification.
  • Must successfully complete and pass CME program for professional coding certification.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in complex organizational setting.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and take direction.
  • Excellent problem-solving ability and good interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to a fast paced, multifaceted position.

  • Demonstrated competency in handling confidential and sensitive information is required.

  • Monday-Friday
  • Hours: 8:00am-4:30pm
