Florida Professional Surveyor and Mapper

MAJOR FUNCTION

A Professional Surveyor and Mapper with active status in the state of Florida will be responsible for measurement of and preparation of plans showing existing improvements after construction; the layout of proposed improvement/construction features, the determination of (but not the design of) grades and elevations of construction features, This will involve using advanced equipment and techniques to collect accurate data that will be used on active projects. Must be able to collaborate closely with project management team, engineers, consultants, and other construction professionals to ensure that projects are planned and executed effectively.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Be on-site at large scale project near South Bay, Florida.
  • Perform field surveys using specialized equipment such as total stations, GPS receivers, and/or laser scanners to accurately measure distances, elevations, and angles.
  • Sign off on as-built and quantity surveys.
  • Perform stake-out for the lines/grades of the contract documents.
  • Lead a team of 1 or 2 grade checkers in execution of surveying duties.
  • Competency in Trimble handheld GPS devices.
  • Assist in the layout and staking of construction features, ensuring that proposed features are constructed in accordance with the contract documents.
  • Process and analyze survey data using computer software to generate maps, reports, and other deliverables.
  • Ensure the accuracy and reliability of survey data by conducting thorough checks and validations.
  • Interact with project management team, engineers, consultants, and client to address survey-related inquiries, resolve issues, and obtain necessary approvals.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines while working in the field to prevent accidents and ensure the well-being of yourself and your team members.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS, & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in surveying, geomatics, civil engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience.
  • Army Corps and/or South Florida Water Management District experience (Preferred).
  • Professional Surveyor and Mapper license (current and active in state of Florida).
  • Proficiency in using surveying equipment and software (Trimble).
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Physical fitness and ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and surveying standards.
  • In possession or have ability to obtain the US Army Corps of Engineers CQM-C certificate within 6 months of hire.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing with management and other coworkers, both individually and in front of a group.
  • Regular use of the telephone and email for communication is essential.
  • Sitting for extended periods of time is common.
  • Hearing, vision, and speaking within normal ranges are essential for normal conversations, to receive ordinary information, and to prepare or inspect documents.
  • No heavy lifting is expected, though exertion of up to 25 pounds of force may occasionally be required.
  • Good reasoning ability is important, must be able to understand and utilize management reports, memos, and other documents to conduct business.
  • Must be able to stand or walk on a project site with some rugged terrain for extended durations.
  • When on project sites or if performing some types of work or activities, must wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including, but not limited to: earplugs, protective eyewear, gloves, hard hat, steel-toed work boots, and high visibility safety apparel.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This job is an on-site field work position at an active construction site near South Bay, Florida. Work hours may vary depending on project deadlines and weather conditions.
