Research Editors offer free, confidential editing services to ASU faculty, research staff, and postdocs, enhancing the logic, clarity, and coherence of academic writing while ensuring adherence to guidelines and readability for diverse audiences. Faculty Development Program Manager plays a key role in advancing the professional growth of faculty and researchers at ASU. This position is responsible for creating and delivering faculty development opportunities, including workshops, sequenced professional development experiences, and collaborative research training programs. The manager focuses on equipping early and mid-career researchers with the tools to build successful research portfolios and facilitating opportunities for interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary researchers to collaborate effectively. Additionally, the role provides pathways for senior researchers to engage with early- and mid-career faculty, fostering a robust research community. Key responsibilities include designing, implementing, evaluating, faculty development programs that address diverse faculty needs. The Faculty Development Program Manager will collaborate with a wide range of disciplines and offices across ASU, ensuring a cohesive and inclusive approach to faculty professional development in research.
Essential Duties: Needs Assessment and Program Development:
- Assess faculty development needs to design and deliver targeted programs for early- and mid-career faculty, focusing on building successful research portfolios.
- Identify training gaps and propose new programs, developing curricula in collaboration with subject-matter experts.
- Collaborate with faculty and units to establish goals and objectives for training programs.
Training Design and Delivery:
- Design and facilitate workshops on research best practices, grant writing, compliance, and project management.
- Develop and deliver professional development materials through diverse platforms, including in-person events, webinars, and online resources.
- Facilitate the creation of online learning tools, such as webinars, interactive modules, and instructional videos.
- Plan, prepare, and organize large-scale events in-person and via Zoom, ensuring seamless execution.
Communication:
- Draft communication materials, including guides, documents, and blog post, to promote faculty development initiatives.
- Maintain and update the Research Development website, maximizing online training opportunities and resources.
- Partner with tenured faculty to create peer-led seminars and panel discussions that share successful research strategies.
Interdisciplinary Collaboration and Innovation:
- Foster interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research by introducing faculty to emerging trends and opportunities.
- Build relationships with colleges, units, and external partners to address shared challenges and develop collaborative solutions.
Stakeholder Engagement and Representation
- Build an understanding of Vice President for Research (VPR) programs and stakeholder needs, aligning training efforts accordingly.
- Represent Research Development at internal and external events, meetings, and committees. Provide consultations and presentations to address complex research concerns.
Program Evaluation and Continuous Improvement:
- Evaluate training programs, revise content, and develop new courses to support faculty growth and continuing education pathways.
- Stay abreast of developments in faculty development and research through professional development and research engagement.
Desired Qualifications: - Master's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Research Administration, Education, Public Policy, or a research-intensive discipline).
- Bachelor's degree and 4 years of related experience.
- 3-5 years of experience in research development, grant writing, or faculty development within a higher education setting.
- Demonstrated experience in working with diverse faculty groups, including early-career, mid-career, and tenured faculty or familiarity with interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research environments.
- Familiarity with grant proposal development and funding agency requirements (e.g., NSF, NIH, DOE).
- Strong facilitation and training skills, with experience in designing impactful workshops and mentoring programs.
- Familiarity with research administration tools and systems (e.g., Pivot, SciVal, or similar platforms).
Working Environment: - Activities are primarily performed in a regular, climate-controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, standing, and walking.
- Activities include presentations to varied audiences in person and via video.
- Visual acuity and manual dexterity are associated with daily use of desktop computers, such as bending, stooping, reaching, and lifting up to 20 pounds.
- Ability to travel (e.g., walk, ride, use available transportation) up to 20 minutes at a time.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and five (5) years of experience appropriate to the area of assignment/field; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
