COMMUNITY SERVICES & EMPLOYMENT TRAINING, INCJob DescriptionJob Title: Program Specialist- Senior Center AssistantDepartment: Community Initiatives- Senior ServicesReports To: Assistant Director, Sr. Program CoordinatorFLSA Status: Non-ExemptPrepared Date: November 27, 2023SUMMARYThis position is responsible for working with other Senior Services staff and volunteers to learn and assist in the operations of CSET's congregate sites to provide hot meals to seniors. This includes but is not limited to: assisting the CSET staff with incoming meals, shipping and receiving, general center operations, and other tasks as needed. Incumbents in this position work with greater independence of action and perform duties such as recruitment and training of volunteers to help support overall department operations.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.Duties will be in a supportive and assistive capacity in the following areas:
  • Participate in trainings to develop skills and techniques in safe food handling and serving meals and assisting senior citizens in various activities.
  • Maintain a safe and hygienic environment, encompassing essential aspects such as personal hygiene, sanitation and infection control, prioritizing the well-being and safety of seniors.
  • Knowledge of CSET services to assist with program awareness and assist with completion of program intake applications.
  • Assist with incoming delivery of food to senior center facilities.
  • Assist with site checklist to identify deficiencies, keep center neat and clean, report unusual wear and tear, and/or operational problems to supervisor.
  • Assist with checking and testing kitchen utensils and equipment to observe possible failure and ensure safe operations.
  • Assist in serving meals as needed.
  • Help create positive morale and build teamwork by working alongside fellow CSET staff and volunteers.
  • Assistance with Community Initiatives projects as directed by the site lead.
  • Learn to complete all forms associated with accurate documentation of work performed.
  • Practice safety at assigned work site(s) by following the CSET and State Safety Standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned which may include: community service at community events, community outreach, and other assignments as needed.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIESThis position reports to the assigned site lead, Assistant Director or designee and does not supervise.QUALIFICATIONSTo perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required. Ability to communicate effectively with staff, partners, and program participants while serving as liaison between rural communities.
  • Skill in making sound, independent judgments within specific department guidelines and practices.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in written form.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with employers, members of other agencies, and the general public.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills and the ability to get along and work effectively with co-workers and members of the public.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • Equivalent to completion of 12th grade.
  • Two years related experience and/or training working with seniors.
  • Currently certified or ability to obtain California Food Handler Card.
  • Any combination of education and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
  • Possession of Class C License with clean driving record
