Position Summary: Community Schools are schools that strategically organize resources and share leadership so that social services are integrated into the fabric of the schools, enabling them to better serve the needs of families. The Program Specialist will support the Director to fulfill New York City 21st CCLC Resource Center grant requirements, monitor program mandates, and provide professional development and capacity-building to schools supported by the Office of Community Schools. The position will manage a portfolio of information databases, liaise with key agency partners, coordinate events and meetings, assist in the management of a help desk, conduct technical assistance, and provide monitoring site visits. This position will support the Technical Assistance Resource Center by developing communications, managing requests for information, supporting administrative operations, and preparing tools and resources. Performs related work.

Key Relationships: The Program Specialist works closely with the Director, Technical Assistance Resource Center Specialist, State partners, Program Managers, OCS staff and Community Based Organizations (CBOs).

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct on-site monitoring and provide technical assistance to 21st Century programs as indicated by the Director of the Citywide 21st Century Technical Assistance Resource Center and the New York State Education Department.
  • Coordinate trainings, conferences, and events for the Resource Center.
  • Prepare and facilitate presentations and collateral materials for conferences and trainings to help schools and community-based organizations effectively implement afterschool programs and Community Schools strategies.
  • Participate in the research, analysis, and development of a broad range of materials, including training curricula, webinars, workshop materials, and evaluation reports for after school programs.
  • Coordinate, schedule and disseminate information regarding community school and afterschool training activities for OCS staff and CBOs. Ensure that messaging is consistent and clear.
  • Assist the Director in negotiation and mediation around issues that may surface at community-based after school sites.
  • Support and assist in the management of the Resource Center help desk as well as provide technical assistance and training to CBOs.
  • Provide support to the Director and team, as required, to fulfill all administrative duties and tasks to implement initiatives supporting schools and CBOs partnerships.
  • Support the day-to-day operations of the Technical Assistance Resource Center.
  • Design and maintain internal systems for data capture and usage related to Site Visit Monitoring process.
  • Travel within the five boroughs of New York City and quarterly to Albany for state meetings; occasional conference travel.

Qualification Requirements:

Minimum:

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two (2) years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
  • High school graduation or equivalent and six (6) years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
  • Education and/or experience which is equivalent to “1” or “2” above. However, all candidates must have at least one (1) year of experience as described in “1” above.

Preferred:

  • Familiarity with the NYC Public Schools (NYCPS) system.
  • Knowledge of 21st Century grants, after school policy, and program evaluation.
  • Experience working with nonprofit entities, CBOs and/or City agencies.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment, set priorities, and work both independently and in a team.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a high level of cultural sensitivity; able to interact and communicate effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong written and presentation skills.
  • Must be able to condense complex communication into clear and concise messaging.
  • Knowledge of Google and Microsoft Office 365 Suite.
