The Project Manager role will support and manage the execution of one or more New York Power Authority (NYPA) capital projects that require Information Technology services. Responsibilities will include governance and reporting and providing information for effective management decision-making. Both waterfall and agile project delivery approaches may be used.
Job Functions & Responsibilities
- Manage projects with a focus on meeting commitments, including communication with sponsors and stakeholders.
- Act as the bridge between business and IT, defining and managing IT workstreams and documents (schedule, tasks, cost, changes/risks/issues) via IT PMO processes.
- Manage all project workstreams as needed, and lead through project phases including initiation, planning, implementation, and closure for enhanced or new systems.
- Monitor project schedules, budgets, and deliverables, ensuring deadlines are met appropriately.
- Identify and resolve problems that may impact project delivery using a systematic, multi-step approach.
- Work cross-functionally to resolve issues, mitigate risks, and implement changes.
- Collaborate with senior management to escalate and resolve complex issues and risks.
- Manage projects with realistic resource plans for all phases, including handover to production support.
- Assess the impact of technology requirements and constraints on project scope.
- Utilize IT project management methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, hybrid) for technical solution delivery.
- Employ IT solution delivery processes, including DevOps, configuration management, and change management.
- Manage IT project financials, including budgets and forecasts for external resources, hardware, software, and labor.
- Ensure solutions and teams follow ITIL/ITSM standards, Enterprise Architecture, Cyber Security standards/policies, and other technical standards.
- Fulfill requirements for the IT PMO and Governance process, including PPM Pro entries, project documentation, and gate promotions.
- Collaborate with program teams, project teams, IT teams, and business units to maintain thorough knowledge of project objectives.
- Promote and maintain communication between project team members and stakeholders, managing expectations.
- Prepare and follow up on correspondence, presentations, and reports as required.

- Understand the software development process and experienced in IT project management methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, hybrid) and IT solution delivery processes (DevOps, configuration management).
- Strong project management skills, including customer relationship management, sponsor expectation management, risk management, change management, and vendor management.
- Understand data governance, management, and quality.
- Organized, good communicator, deadline-driven, team builder, leader, planner, problem solver, and agile.
- Ability to promote and maintain a positive and inclusive work environment with team members, co-workers, management, and vendors.
- Superior interpersonal skills, conflict resolution, and negotiating skills to ensure open communication across project teams.

- Proven track record of project management success, both in results and in the use of professional methodologies.
Education & Certifications
- Bachelors degree in a technical or business discipline.
- Advanced degree preferred.
- Project management certification preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience.
- Experience managing various projects successfully.
- Experience with middleware, integration development, software upgrades, and deployments preferred.
- Program management experience is a plus.
Work hours and location:
- Monday through Friday 7.5 hour work day with .5 hour unpaid lunch Paid for time worked only; there are no paid holidays, vacation, or sick days. Overtime is not permitted unless authorized in advanced.
- Contingent worker is required to badge in and out of the turnstiles located in the lobby for all daily entrances and exits.
