Job Description :
An incumbent to a position in this class is responsible for performing activities related to development of community improvement projects undertaken by Division of Parks. The Project Manager (Parks) shall take an active role in the design and implementation of Parks projects which will involve work activities such as technical research, assist in preparing plans and specifications, and the administration and supervision of consultants and contractors. Duties also include responsibility for development issues and several projects on a continuing basis. The incumbent will receive immediate supervision from the Deputy Commissioner of Parks or a designee. Reviews Parks improvement projects as directed to determine if consistent with overall plans and objectives of the department; Supervises consultants and contractors and participates in the preparation of plans, specifications and bid documents for various construction, consultant, and purchase contracts; Researches and responds to various inquiries regarding Parks projects on such areas as project scoping, requirements, site layouts and available infrastructure. Prepares written reports on project status/documentation as necessary; Performs periodic field inspections and investigations of departmental projects related to project status and identification resolution of potential problems; Prepares a wide variety of project data, statistics, designs, charts, records and reports; Prepares reports to be presented to the Division of Parks, Department of Public Works, Common Council, and any other agencies concerning Parks projects; Performs related work as required. A. Master's Degree from a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education, in Landscape Architecture, Civil Engineering, or a related field and one year of relevant work experience in managing projects, which may include defining project scope, overseeing project resources, and compiling status reports; OR B. Bachelor's Degree from a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education, in Landscape Architecture, Civil Engineering, or a related field and three years of relevant work experience in managing projects, which may include defining project scope, overseeing project resources, and compiling status reports; or C. An equivalent combination as defined within the limits of A and B. Full Performance Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics : Good knowledge of the principles of park, recreational, and landscape construction; Knowledge of administrative procedures used in the expediting of projects; Ability to prepare written material; Ability to establish a professional working relationship with public agencies, contractors, consultants, city departments, and other diversified personnel to insure effective implementation of urban renewal projects; Good organizational skills; Good social attitude; Initiative, Tact; Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position
