In addition to a base wage, every associate is eligible for quarterly profit sharing!! Various shifts are available and off shifts include additional shift differential pay.Sturm Ruger is currently seeking a Second Shift Prototype Specialist. This position will be located in the Newport, NH facility. This position will work to support the Product Engineering team by providing prototype manufacturing in a team based, fast paced, dynamic environment. While ensuring quality, accuracy, and on-time delivery. The Prototyping Specialist must adhere to the Ruger core values of Integrity, Respect, Innovation, and Teamwork.NPD Vision StatementTo develop innovative products using a lean product and process development system with a focus on customer value and continuous improvement.Tasks:
  • Create and understanding of CNC programming, G-Code and M-Code, machine tool setup and integration, tooling, macro-programming, fixture and gage design
  • Experience with component machining processes including 3, 4, and 5 axis CNC machining centers, Mill-Turn, EDM, precision grinding processes, managing and controlling extremely tight tolerances, 3D printing, CAD (Solid works), CAM (MasterCAM), Metrology (CMM, in-line gaging, surface plate, air gaging, etc.), and GD&T application
  • Perform difficult CNC Machinist work including progressive machining of a variety of parts and different materials where very close tolerances must be maintained.
  • Effective at planning, prioritizing and organizing tasks and activities with the ability to deal with competing demands within specified timescales.
  • Team player who knows how to lead, follow and sometimes just listen.
  • Hands on technical knowledge of metal forming, machine design and machine fabrication is a plus.
  • Troubleshoot and understand CNC programs and processes.
  • Must be able to apply much of the above independently, without guidance, on a daily basis with a self-starter mentality.
  • Perform routine maintenance as per daily machine checklist and adhere to PM schedule.
  • Participate in and sustain 5S within Process Development Area.
  • Effectively communicate with product engineering team about timelines, material selections, etc.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Have a AAS degree in a mechanical related field and 2 years of practical manufacturing experience
  • Have a sound knowledge of lean philosophy and the tools used
  • CAD/CAM experience
  • Strong knowledge of setting up and operating CNC equipment
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Have excellent attention to detail, quality, and interpersonal skills
  • Have exceptional structured problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated experience working in a team orientated manufacturing environment
