General Statement of DutiesThis employee performs tasks of professional level difficulty and responsibility either in the leadership role or as a team member; assesses nursing care requirements of a group of clients having moderately complex problems which may require deviations from routine care.Minimum Qualifications (KSAs)(Illustrative only. Any one position may not require all of the listed KSAs nor do the listed examples include all the KSAs which may be required.)Knowledge of:Nursing licensing requirements.Communicable diseases, normal vs. pathological symptoms, medical conditions, infection control and proper reporting procedures (i.e., Class A, B, or C).Medical and nursing terminology.Supplies and equipment required to treat certain types of injuries/medical conditions.Administration and supervision of medication.Emergency care procedures (i.e., CPR, administration of oxygen, shock, medical reactions, poisonings).How to perform all types of catherizations and colostomy changes.Normal vs. normal growth and development for adults and children.How to properly lift and transfer patients.Patient care management.How to assess patient condition and develop a care plan.How to use PDR, medical surgical, pediatric, nursing manuals, nursing references, and other medical manuals.Family dynamics and counseling techniques.Skill to:Take vital signs, i.e., blood pressure, temperature, respiration.Administer drugs properly.Make pharmaceutical conversions.Administer emergency medical procedures i.e., CPR, oxygen administering and monitoring equipment.Give various types of injections/immunizations.Change and dress all types of wounds.Perform catherizations.Use and maintain medical equipment (i.e., thermometers, height and weight scales, blood pressure cuff, stethoscope, ophthalmoscope).Make nursing assessment based on test results.Ability to:Elicit information from patient.Discuss medical information with patients/health professionals and others in a knowledgeable manner.Provide emotional support to patient and relatives upon receiving unpleasant diagnosis.Plan and coordinate patient care services.Handle hostile/violent patients or those having seizures, convulsions, etc.Analyze situations quickly.Remain calm, work efficiently, and make decisions in stressful situations.Assess physical and mental condition of patient from observation, interview and use of established medical and nursing procedures.Recognize communicable diseases of public health concern.Communicate orally and in writing.Maintain neat, accurate records, and files.Listen and follow instructions.Work with people.Required Education and ExperienceLICENSE AND TRANSCRIPT/DEGREE MUST BE ATTACHED OR APPLICATION WILL BE REJECTEDEach applicant must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing and must be currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Ohio (COPY OF LICENSE MUST BE ATTACHED). Additionally, each applicant must have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing to become employed in the School and Adolescent Health Program. Each applicant must have one year of patient care experience in a public health nursing program. A Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from a college or university may be substituted for the one year of experience.OTHER REQUIREMENTSMust possess a valid Ohio Driver's License.Must be willing to furnish an automobile on an expense reimbursement basis.Must possess patience, flexibility, initiative, tact, self-confidence, physical stamina, self-motivation, dependability, compassion, willingness to accept responsibility, quick reflexes, good eyesight, keen powers of observation.Must possess the ability to tolerate unpleasant conditions such as the sight of blood, exposed wounds, obnoxious odors.Must possess independent judgment to determine needs of patients as an independent provider.Examples of Work Performed:(Illustrative only. Any one position within this classification may not include all of the duties listed nor do the listed examples include all of the tasks which may be performed.)Gathers patient information by interviewing patient and/or family member to obtain health history and data base information to make preliminary assessment of the level of care needed for the development of a patient care plan and to obtain the information for billing.May perform triage activities on patients entering clinic.Gives patient a physical assessment and administers tests, e.g., smears, cultures, skin tests and other routine medical procedures as ordered by physician or permitted by Health Department policy and procedures.Processes referrals and initiates visits for hospital aftercare and identifies other home care needs in order to provide continuity of care.Makes referrals to community agencies and coordinates services with those provided by the Cincinnati Health Department.Provides health education to individuals/groups on topics of their concert and interest.Plans with professional and community groups for implementation and evaluation of needed health services.Handles crisis situations as they occur and resolves them by counseling, advising, treating or referring in a timely manner.Insures that necessary equipment and supplies are available and maintained in proper working order to perform nursing and related activities as necessary.Completes forms and prepares annual reports.Keeps accurate records of all nursing services provided.Carries out all activities as they relate to the area assigned which includes schools, clinics, nursing homes, and day care centers.Performs other related duties as assigned.Working and Physical ConditionsWorking and Physical ConditionsExamples of Work Performed(Illustrative only.
