Salary Range: C41($27.75 - $35.15/hour)/C42($29.07 - $36.83/hour) Non-exempt * salary commensurate with experience

Position Summary:

Under the direction of the TB Clinic and Communicable Disease Nurse Supervisor, the Public Health Nurse is responsible for reviewing and investigating all reported cases of communicable disease in Montgomery County.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Collecting and documenting communicable disease data, reviewing confidential case reports, and initiating follow-up with patients, area hospitals, healthcare providers, and others in the community.
  • Conducting interviews to determine source and possible spread of communicable diseases/infections.
  • Investigating disease incidents and outbreaks.
  • Collaborating with area infectious disease professionals to control the spread of disease.
  • Documenting data, generating reports, and completing appropriate forms as required.
  • Developing educational guidance and providing education to patients, healthcare providers, and others in the community concerning infectious diseases.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • PH Nurse I/C41: Associate's degree in nursing with 2 years of relevant experience
  • PH Nurse II/C42: Bachelor's degree in nursing with 4 years of relevant experience (2 years of which are Public Health), OR Associate's degree in nursing with 6 years of relevant experience (2 years of which are Public Health)
  • Current valid Licensure from State of Ohio to practice as a Registered Nurse
  • Must obtain 24 CEUs every two (2) years
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams).
  • Understands and acknowledges that Public Health - Dayton & Montgomery County uses evidence-based and evidence-informed public health practices based on scientific research including health promotion theory and practice, environmental health measures, and communicable disease control measures including vaccination, isolation, and quarantine practices, and medicine for treatment and prevention of disease, among others.
  • Understands and acknowledges the use of tobacco or nicotine products in any form including replacement therapy products and prescription medications used to treat smoking addiction for anyone hired after January 1, 2014, is prohibited
  • Required to play an active role during a public health emergency, crisis, outbreak, incident, or event in which the Health Commissioner deems additional personnel resources are warranted. This may include changes in responsibilities and working locations/hours
  • Completion of Incident Command System 100 and National Incident Management System 700 courses within 90 days of hire
  • Valid State of Ohio drivers license and insurance on any personal vehicle that will be used for work

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing with 4 years of relevant experience (2 years of which are Public Health), OR Associate's degree in nursing with 6 years of relevant experience (2 years of which are Public Health)
  • Current valid Licensure from State of Ohio to practice as a Registered Nurse
