The next cutoffs are as follows: January 31, 2025 February 14, 2025 THE POSITION Under close and general supervision, the Public Safety Dispatcher performs a variety of duties involved in receiving, evaluating, prioritizing, and relaying calls for emergency and non-emergency public safety assistance; dispatches appropriate units and coordinates response of emergency personnel; operates a variety of telecommunications equipment including radio, telephone, and computer aided dispatch systems; performs a wide variety of specialized duties involved in emergency communications; and performs related duties as assigned. SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED Receives close or general supervision from the Public Safety Dispatch Supervisor. Exercises no supervision over staff. ESSENTIAL DUTIES Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Receives emergency calls for police, fire, or other emergency services.
  • Receives 9-1-1 calls, determines priority, and dispatches appropriate units via radio and Mobile Data Terminals in accordance with established procedures.
  • Coordinates emergency incidents or calls for service, relaying information and assistance requests involving other public safety entities.
  • Tracks and maintains current status of field units.
  • Enters, updates, and retrieves information from local, state, and national databases relating to wanted or missing persons, stolen property, vehicle registration, stolen vehicles, etc.
  • Receives incoming telephone and voice radio requests for non-emergency assistance; provides appropriate information and referrals.
  • Provides Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) services to callers through an accredited system of telephone triage and pre-arrival instructions.
QUALIFICATIONSEducation and Experience A combination of education and experience which would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. Note: education may not fully substitute for the required experience unless expressly stated herein. Equivalent to the completion of the 12th grade; AND Two (2) years of full-time experience equivalent to a Public Safety Dispatcher I with the City of Rocklin. Licenses and Certifications
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain and maintain, a valid California Class C Driver License and a satisfactory driving record is required. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
  • Possession of a typing certification showing a net speed of 40 words per minute.
  • A Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Professional Public Safety Dispatcher Basic Certificate is required
  • An EMD certification is desirable.
Must be willing to work emergencies as well as evenings, weekends, and holidays. SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS

Flex Credit The City shall provide each employee with a flex credit of $3,600 per fiscal year for any benefit covered under the Cafeteria Plan. The flex credit is prorated and paid over 24 benefit pay periods. Health Coverage Reduction Incentive Employees who decline health coverage may receive incentive pay of up to $250 per month. Leave Accruals Sick Leave: 56 hours first year, up to 72 hours based upon years of service Upon separation with ten (10) years or more, a portion of sick leave can be cashed out and/or converted to retirement credit. Vacation: 234 hours first year, up to 298 hours based upon years of service Special Holiday Pay: An employee working a regularly scheduled shift on the following holidays shall be compensated at double time. New Year's Day Independence Day Thanksgiving Day Christmas Day An employee working overtime on any one of the above holidays, scheduled or non-scheduled, will be compensated at double time and one-half for all overtime hours worked. Retirement-CalPERS Classic Members - 2.0% @ 55 PEPRA Members - 2.0% @ 62 Deferred Compensation Rocklin offers an optional 457 plan for employee participation. Non-Sworn Employees: Not eligible for matching funds. PEPRA Members = $200 per month, non-matching Insurance Life Insurance and AD&D: City paid $50,000 (Life and Accidental Death & Dismemberment Insurance) Tuition Reimbursement $1,050 per calendar year maximum. Other Specialty Pays Education Incentive: This incentive is non-cumulative and is paid at the highest rate for which an employee is qualified. Completion of 60 college units (40 units must be job-related) = $65 per month EMD Certificate = $75 per month Associate's Degree (any major) = $75 per month Intermediate POST = $175 per month Dispatcher Intermediate POST = $175 per month BA/BS (any major) = $150 per month Advanced POST = $225 per motnh Dispatcher Advanced POST = $225 per month MA (non-sworn only) = $200 per month BA/BS + Advanced POST (Sworn and Dispatchers) = $275 per month Uniform Allowance: Community Services Officer and Police Technical Assets Coordinator = $36.54 per pay period Non-Sworn (Except those identified above) = $30.00 per pay period Health & Wellness Free chair massages offered monthly, gardening and book clubs, and employee discounts.
