Public Safety Dispatcher - Hillsborough Community College : Job Details

Position Summary: Dispatcher Job Description:

• The dispatcher serves as a telecommunicator 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 day a year, in the Central Dispatch Center, protecting Hillsborough Community College.
• Dispatchers are the primary point of contact for the Department of Public Safety.
• This includes receiving emergency and non-emergency phone calls for assistance.
• Dispatchers communicate using emergency radios with patrol units and supervisors.
• Dispatchers enter data into the records management system/computer aided dispatch (CAD), monitoring video surveillance cameras and access control devices.
• Dispatchers communicate with mutual aid First Responders in law enforcement, with fire departments and Emergency Medical Agencies.
• Dispatchers coordinate campus notifications with College Leadership and representatives of various departments for response, mitigation, and recovery.
• Receives and processes 7911 emergency and non-emergency calls for service from the college population.
• Monitors the college-wide security camera system, analyzes video input, and determines the proper response to conditions or situations.
• Interacts with Tampa, Hillsborough County and Plant City 9-1-1 operators in processing emergency service requests.
• Logs the nature and source of all incoming and outgoing radio messages.
• Assists law enforcement officers and other officials in the recovery and analysis of archived records.
• Performs other similar and related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

• Oral and written communication skills.
• First Aid & CPR/AED are required within 30 days after hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Associate degree
• Two years of experience
• Customer Service experience with phone etiquette

Pay Rate: hourly

• $17.00 - $25.91
