POSITION SUMMARY

The Public Safety Dispatch position will act as the initial point of contact for the Public Safety Department. This position requires daily public contact via phone, in person and through electronic correspondence. The position will receive daily calls for service which requires the ability to effectively assess and determine the proper response, resources and services needed to resolve any safety and security matters reported. The dispatcher shall be able to communicate and relay critical information in a clear, concise, and timely manner. The dispatcher is responsible for proper documentation and data entry into the designated computer and radio systems. Dispatcher shall be able to multitask in operating a multi-line phone system, radio equipment, computer data entry and security camera systems. The dispatcher must understand the importance of the informationreceived and relayed and that confidentiality is a crucial factor in the integrity of our response and investigations.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Dispatch & Traffic Citations

* Dispatch public safety services using department designated radio and CAD systems, to include communication with local 9-1-1 operators and systems.

* Emergency Call Handling; answer emergency and non-emergency calls from the public, assessing the nature and urgency of the situation

* Relay information to public safety officers, providing details about incidents, locations and any relevant updates or changes in real time

* Be able to allocate the proper resources needed for each call for service, considering officer safety factors, types of calls, location of incidents etc.

* Coordinate with other entities, departments, organizations and first responders when necessary to manage multi agency response or to address specific safety and security issues

Data Input

* Monitor and track the status of all public safety officers on calls and on duty throughout the designated shift using the designated technology and systems as provided by the department

* Maintain accurate records and details of all calls for service, incidents and other related safety and security issues. Documentation is crucial for the legal and administrative purposes of the college, public safety, and criminal justice process

Department Responsibilities

* Be trained in Crisis and Emergency Management and Response; be able to remain calm amid a crisis or emergency and be able to react quickly and precisely, in some cases, making immediate decisions in high pressure situations, providing guidance and support for all involved

* Be trained in the use of a variety of communication and technology systems, to include, but not limited to radios, phones, computer systems to support daily Public Safety operations

* Abide by all policies and procedures of the college and all local, state, and federal laws and ordinances in accordance with departmental and college standards

* Supervises student workers and part time employees in the office

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)

* AND-

Minimum of two years of full-time experience which reflect the knowledge and skills listed below

Core Competencies:

* Knowledge of administrative and office procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, and use of Google

* Knowledge of providing customer and personal services including customer needs assessment and meeting quality standards for services

* Ability to understand the implications of new information for both current and future problem solving and decision making

* Ability to select and use training/instructional methods and procedures appropriate for the situation

* Ability to remain calm and appropriately respond when performing conflict resolution which may include interactions with distressed, unpleasant, angry or discourteous individuals

* Ability to effectively and professionally communicate through telephone conversations, email, letters, and face-to-face interactions

Preferred Qualifications:

* Customer service experience with high public contact

* Two years' experience as a dispatcher or emergency response related field

* Experience or familiarity with emergency radios and emergency service systems

* Computer skills and experience; data entry

* Bilingual in English/Spanish

SCHEDULE & MODALITY

This position is not eligible for remote/hybrid work.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

* This is a 100%, 12-month classified assignment of the A4 band and grade

* Please note:The college is currently undertaking a comprehensive classification and compensation study. No employee will lose base pay because of this study, however, classification titles and pay grades may change. The successful candidate will receive notice of all changes prior to implementation which is currently projected for the Winter of 2024.

* This position has a 6-month probationary period

* All positions at Chemeketa are required to be available for work onsite as requested by the college.

* Requires flexible work schedule to meet program needs, which may include evenings and/or weekends

* This position may require the use of your personal vehicle for transportation between campus locations

* If requested, requires the provision of official transcripts upon hire

* Employees must maintain Oregon, Washington or Idaho residency as a condition of employment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Light Work:Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Even though weight lifted may be negligible, it may be rated light work if frequent walking and/or standing is required.

PUBLIC SERVICE LOAN FORGIVENESS

Chemeketa Community College is considered a qualifying public employer for the purposes of the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program. Through the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program, full-time employees working at the College may qualify for forgiveness of the remaining balance on Direct Loans after 120 qualifying monthly payments under a qualifying repayment plan.
