City of Staunton Public Safety DispatcherPublic Safety Dispatchers serve a vital role in the City's services. Dispatchers receive emergency and non-emergency calls from the public and public safety personnel by radio and telephone, dispatch police, fire, and EMS in response to the identified need and accurately document all related incidents. Position requires the dispatcher to become certified in emergency medical dispatch (EMD) for calls involving critical illness or injury, the ability to work in stressful situations, prioritize tasks, make decisions quickly and have strict attention to detail. A HS diploma/GED, and excellent organizational, keyboarding, computing, customer service skills, the ability to adapt to change and the ability to work in a team environment required. Must be able to work a 12-hour shift: 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on a rotating basis, including weekends and holidays. Hiring range: $41,197 or higher (salary commensurate with experience). Hiring process requires successful completion of a City of Staunton employment application, written test(s), interview(s) and background investigation, including a past free from felony conviction and crime(s) involving moral turpitude. The hiring process can take approximately four to six weeks and requires successful completion of employment application, written test, interview, background investigation, and pre-employment drug-screen. Individuals who have previously been disqualified due to the background investigation from a previous process are not eligible for consideration.IMPORTANT:
