However, there is a high probability night and weekend hours will be required.CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESThe position is a member of the Bradley University Police Department. Public Safety Officers develop partnerships within and outside the University community and maintain the security and safety of students, faculty and staff and safeguard the property of the University. The Public Safety Officer would assist in this partnership by performing duties and responsibilities that would allow the Bradley University Police Officers become more of a visible police presence to the university and surrounding communities. The Public Safety Officer would report to the BUPD Shift Lieutenant.The following duties and responsibilities are included in the position of Public Safety Officer:
- Conduct walking tours of the campus in order to inspect, open and secure university buildings and grounds as needed;
- Monitor access to buildings;
- Investigate and report unusual conditions related to the safety of the university community such as non-functioning lights, reporting dimly lit areas, and landscaping that obscures areas;
- Respond to and assist faculty, staff, and students by granting access to rooms on campus which have been authorized by dispatcher or approved postings;
- Assist in the testing and responding to the Panic Alarm systems;
- Aid fire and police personnel in fire alarm incidents;
- Respond to medical related incidents and administer First-Aid/CPR if needed;
- Report any events that are considered criminal (vandalism, damaged), suspicious persons, or any other criminal or suspicious activity;
- Submit reports of daily activity;
- Perform other duties as assigned;
In order to meet the needs of the University, the University retains the right to assign duties and requirements to employees, determine and change starting times, quitting times and shifts and change appointment specifications.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Valid Illinois driver's license;
- High School education or equivalent;
- At least 18 years of age;
- Ability to walk and stand for a long period of time;
- Ability to complete the Bradley University Public Safety Officer Training;
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing;
- Maintain effective working relationship with other people;
- Operate radio communication equipment effectively;
- Able to work under adverse weather conditions;
- Demonstrate a high level of professional ethics and personal integrity;
- Ability to perform assigned tasks in a timely manner with minimum supervision;
- Successful completion of an employment background investigation:
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:PSO will be required to successfully complete a pre-employment drug screen and physical and complete the following training which includes:
- PSO Field Training
- First Aid/CPR Training
