Salary: $23.10 Hourly Location : Maryville, MO Job Type: Full-Time Job Number: 202300029 Department: Police Department Opening Date: 09/10/2024 Job Summary This is a non-exempt position that reports directly to the Shift Sergeant of Public Safety. Under the general direction of the shift sergeant, performs a full range of police duties necessary to enforce the law. Investigates complaints, maintains order, aids individuals, and identifies criminal offenders. Identifies law enforcement problems, resolves conflicts, and provides other police services to the public as necessary. Performs a variety of unplanned physical tasks, which include the restraint of violent individuals. Decisions within areas of responsibility are made independently. Supervision received is general, and daily work plans are established with periodic review of progress. There is frequent interaction with the general public. Essential FunctionsIncident/Accident Activities
  • Begins patrolling assigned areas and conducts checks and monitoring process for all aspects within the City.
  • Responds to notification of incidents/accidents and reports at scene, assuring timeliness and safety. Gathers preliminary incident information. Makes determination to proceed. Proactively monitors environment looking for criminal activity.
  • Responds appropriately to incidents/accidents assuring that departmental procedures are followed, assuring safety and professionalism.
  • Completes and submits reports to supervisors as required, assuring timeliness and accuracy.
Service Calls
  • Receives assignment and responds, as requested, assuring professionalism and the best public relations for the City.
Offense calls
  • Responds to radio announced and/or self-identified incident and coordinates with other units as needed.
  • Responds appropriately and notifies dispatcher of arrival on scene. Takes appropriate enforcement or controls action as required, assuring departmental procedures are followed and assuring safety.
  • Notifies dispatcher of status and begins investigation of offense.
  • Completes investigation and makes determination regarding enforcement action required, gathers evidence as needed, and completes reports and documentation as required, assuring timeliness and accuracy.
  • If needed, makes arrests and handles prisoners, assuring officer and public safety, and assuring departmental procedures are followed.
  • Completes initial booking procedures. Conducts and completes any required follow-up activities.
Other Patrol Activities
  • Conducts traffic and parking enforcement activities, assuring safety, professionalism, and the best PR for the City.
  • Maintains an awareness of persons who have outstanding warrants, maintains vigilance for such persons, and serves warrants as required, assuring safety and professionalism, and following prescribed policies and procedures.
  • Assists with animal-related complaints. Handles matter appropriately.
  • Handles and interacts with prisoners as requested, assuring safety and professionalism, and following prescribed policies and procedures.
  • Responds to requests for assistance from other agencies, assuring professionalism and adherence to department policies and procedures.
  • Provides light maintenance and safeguards vehicles and other department-issued supplies and equipment, assuring vehicles and equipment are safe and operational.
SECONDARY FUNCTIONS:
  • Assists in providing information and making presentations as required, assuring professionalism.
  • Assists with educational programs for the schools and community, assuring the best PR for the City.
  • Provides testimony in court cases, assuring professionalism and accuracy.
  • Assists organizations and/or community activities, assuring the best PR for the City.
  • Coordinates with other agencies, assuring collaboration and the best PR for the City.
  • Is cross-trained with Fire Division and cooperates as needed. Provides Police services for Mozingo Lake.
  • Patrol may be assigned to Mozingo Lake, which may include patrol by vehicle, on foot, or using watercraft. Use of equipment requires special training and knowledge.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum QualificationsCERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • State of Missouri POST license.
  • Firearm certified.
  • CPR and first aid.
  • Must be 21.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and non-convicted felon.
  • Specialist training for SRO (School Resource Officer) initially and annually.
  • Fire Fighter I, preferred.
  • Fire Fighter II, preferred.
REQUIRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. This position may be in doors where the noise level is moderate or outdoors in emergency situations where the noise level in the work environment is usually loud to very loud. This position may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens, dangerous situations. This position is subject to being on call or called out during emergency situations. This position may work nights or graveyard shifts and may receive overtime pay.
