Job Description :

The City of Gresham is seeking qualified applicants to fill two Public Utility Worker 2 vacancies on the concrete crew in the Transportation Division of the Department of Environmental Services. This position will work in a team environment outdoors in various weather conditions to perform labor intensive activities to maintain and repair the City's transportation infrastructure. The Transportation Operations crew is overseen by a Transportation Superintendent and consists of 3 Public Works Field Operations Supervisors, 2 Public Utility Worker Seniors, and 19 Public Utility Worker 2's.

What you will get to do:

* Perform concrete construction

* Excavate, form, pour, and finish concrete sidewalks, driveways and ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) ramps

* Collect and maintain data associated with concrete projects throughout the City of Gresham

* Repair and maintain roadways, bridges and rights-of-way

* Install, maintain, seal, and repair roadways, sidewalks, and bridges

* Assist in removing damaged road areas for excavation

* Prepare streets for overlays and slurry seals

* Patch, fill potholes, pave and sweep

* Fabricate and install street signs, barricades, traffic control devices and pavement markings

* Paint traffic markings, dividers, and parking spaces

* Maintain City lots and rights-of-way to include removal of debris and garbage

* Mow, spray, pull weeds, and trim vegetation

* Collect and maintain data of street signs, traffic control devices, pavement markings, and others

* Control traffic for emergencies and daily tasks

* Operate a variety of vehicles, trailers, equipment and tools

* Backhoes

* Excavators

* Loaders

* Dump trucks

* Light-duy trucks

* Bucket trucks

* Sweepers

* Pavers

* Rollers

* Welders

* Compressors

* Mowers

* Wide variety of other hand and power tools

* Perform winter operations

* Operate light-duty trucks to 10 yard dump trucks with trailers, plows, sanders, and/or de-icers

* Collect and maintain data

* May include working nights

* Provide service to the public

* Respond to and resolve inquiries and complaints regarding transportation related public works matters and service requests

* Provide information within scope of knowledge or refers to other, more experienced transportation crew members

Work schedule/environment:

The typical work schedule will be four 10-hour days per week either Monday through Thursday or Tuesday through Friday.

Knowledge of:

* Practices, principles, procedures, regulations, standards, and techniques as they relate to public works operations, construction, repair, and maintenance

* Traffic systems, traffic signs and traffic markings

* Safety methods and practices used in public works operations, equipment operation, pesticide application, and the use of hand and power tools

* Techniques for providing a high level of customer service to the public and City staff

* Communication principles, practices, and techniques

* Modern office practices and methods, computer equipment, and software applications

Ability to:

* Exercise discretion in confidential and sensitive matters

* Interpret, apply, and enforce compliance with applicable policies, procedures, laws, and regulations

* Understand and interpret technical manuals, work orders, specifications, blueprints, and other technical materials

* Operate hand tools, power tools, and light to heavy equipment

* Work in environments requiring the use of a respirator

* Establish and maintain effective working relationships with all internal and external contacts

* Operate office equipment and technology tools including personal computers, laptop computers and printers, and presentation equipment

* Communicate effectively verbally and in writing; present information, proposals, and recommendations clearly and persuasively

* Conduct work far off the ground in tall heights using a bucket truck

* Physically perform the essential job functions

Minimum Qualifications:

* High school diploma or GED

* Valid driver's license

* Good driving record (based on our driving matrix below)

* 18 years of age or older

* One year of related work experience which includes construction, landscaping, and concrete installation.

* Must possess the physical ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation

Required certifications and licenses:

* CPR/AED and First Aid certification is required within 6 months of hire.

* Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Confined Space certification is required within 6 months of hire.

* Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Competent Person certification is required within 6 months of hire.

* Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) Flagger certification is required within 6 months of hire.

* Oregon or Washington Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A with Air Brakes and Tanker endorsements is required within 6 months of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Preference will be given to those with ADA ramp experience.

DRIVING MATRIX: You will be disqualified from this process if you possess any of the following driving infractions:

* A major traffic offense or accident that results in death or major injury.

* Driving under the influence (DUI) offense within the last 5 years.

* Have more than 3 moving violations within a 3-year period or more than 2 within a one- year period.

* Have more than 2 accidents within a 3-year period.
