The City of Gresham is seeking a skilled and motivated Public Utility Worker Senior to lead our Parks Operations crew. This critical role oversees the maintenance and improvement of Gresham's 300+ acres of park land, 840 acres of natural areas, several miles of trails and multiple facilities. The Parks Operations staff consists of the Parks Superintendent, a Public Works Field Operations Supervisor, two Public Utility Worker Seniors, and eight Public Utility Worker 2's.

* Lead direction of Parks crews:
* mentor and train parks crews to ensure knowledge and safe construction standards are met
* schedule daily work for crews;
* monitor and inspect assigned work
* submit all the job paperwork including equipment and parts used, dump tickets, equipment purchase receipts, personnel time and 'as-builts' as needed
* communicate clearly to the crew expectations, safety concerns and equipment and parts needed to complete the project
* Lead crews to maintain developed park systems:
* maintain parks and sports fields
* install and maintain irrigation systems, playground equipment, splash fountains, restrooms, benches, tables, signs, trails, & bridges
* operate a variety of vehicles, trailers, equipment, and tools to perform duties, such as a hydraulic backhoe, excavator, loader, dump truck, shovel, pick, mower, compressor, and other equipment
* maintain and service assigned tools and equipment, such as changing oil, air filters, mower blades, and other equipment
* apply pesticides; over-seed, aerate, fertilize, and repair sod; mow, trim, and edge; pull weeds, prune shrubs, etc.
* Maintain undeveloped parks and open spaces:
* Maintain open spaces, greenways, and trails.
* Collaborate with the Natural Resources Program and coordinate with consultant arborist contracts to inspect and address hazard trees.
* Respond to contractor and public inquiries:
* respond to inquiries from MyGresham to resolve inquiries and complaints
* assist with capital improvement projects as related to maintenance functions
* Safety: Prioritize safety standards and ensure compliance with regulations.
* After-Hours availability: Occasionally be available for after-hours work, including routine, emergency-related, snow removal operations, and removal of hazard trees in the rights-of-way.

Work schedule:
The current schedule for this position is 4-10 hours shift, either Monday through Thursday or Tuesday through Friday.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
* Ability to safely operate a variety of equipment for Parks Maintenance and Operations
* Ability to read and understand engineered drawings
* Effectively motivate, coordinate, and evaluate work of Public Utility Workers performance
* Ability to safely and effectively maintain parks, including but not limited landscaping, carpentry, plumbing, concrete works, irrigation, etc.
* Knowledge of modern office practices and methods and software applications; ability to operate office equipment and technology tools
* Communicate effectively verbally and in writing; present information, proposals, and recommendations clearly and persuasively
* Establish and maintain effective working relationships with all contacts
Minimum Qualifications:
* High school diploma or GED
* Three to six years of progressively related experience in Parks Operations, landscaping, irrigation, and/or facilities maintenance, and increasingly responsible experience in providing direction to other team members and/or acting as lead.
* Good driving record (according to our driving matrix below)
Any combination of qualifying education, training and experience equivalent to three to six years will be considered.
Required licenses and certifications:
* CPR/AED and First Aid certification required
* Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Confined Space certification required
* Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) Flagger certification required
* Oregon or Washington Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A with Air Brakes and Tanker endorsements required
* Oregon Pesticide Applicator License required
* Certified Playground Safety Inspector Certification required
DRIVING MATRIX: You will be disqualified from this process if you possess any of the following driving infractions:
* A major traffic offense or accident that results in death or major injury.
* Driving under the influence (DUI) offense within the last 5 years.
* Have more than 3 moving violations within a 3-year period or more than 2 within a one- year period.
* Have more than 2 accidents within a 3-year period.
