- Maintains and repairs all aspects of street, drainage and alley maintenance, street signs, street striping, other roadway markings, and construction; performs line locates; responds to trouble calls on roads and equipment; patrols streets to identify and provide maintenance for traffic signals, signs, guardrails, barricades, and markings that need adjustment or repair.
- Operates equipment, tools, and motor vehicles such as trucks, specialty vehicles, and other similar maintenance or construction equipment to conform with applicable regulatory standards and City standards.
- Maintains heavy equipment by conducting daily safety inspections of equipment, cleans and performs routine maintenance work on trucks and equipment; identifies and reports mechanical problems requiring additional repair.
- Hauls materials, and transports vehicles and equipment to job sites using various trucks.
- Loads and unloads materials using power equipment.
- Safely operates equipment and tools used at work sites as required; places traffic control flags, signs, and cones to direct traffic around work sites, and operates and maintains hand and power tools.
- Responds tactfully to questions and comments from the public and delegates to appropriate staff.
- On-call for emergency situations and assists with special events.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: No direct supervision exercised; may exercise occasional operational and functional supervision for specified activities in the absence of the crew leader.Minimum Qualifications
- Possess a valid driver license
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Two (2) years' experience in roadway and/or stormwater construction or maintenance.
- Two (2) years of experience operating medium off-road automotive equipment used in excavation, construction, landfill and/or street sweeping operations (e.g., backhoe, excavator, or skid-loader).T
- Three (3) years' experience in roadway and/or stormwater construction or maintenance preferred.
Special Requirements:
- Possess or obtain within one (1) year a TX Class A CDL
- Possess or obtain within one (1) year a possess a NPDES Certified Stormwater Inspector certification.
Physical Demands / Work Environment:
- Operate a motor vehicle safely.
- Ability to sit, stand, walk long distances, kneel, crouch, stoop, and squat.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds.
- Exposure to cold, heat, construction, roadway, and other outdoor hazards.
