The Public Works Permit Coordinator is responsible for overseeing and facilitating a variety of permitting processes related to land development. By managing and coordinating permit processes related to right-of-way, paving and striping, and site improvement, the position will directly contribute to the development of our community. This role involves collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to ensure efficient and compliant permit issuance, adhering to the city's land development code and other relevant regulations.Beyond permit management, this role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to various critical public works initiatives. The position provides essential technical and administrative support for tasks such as assisting the City's development review committee, overseeing streetlight maintenance, and conducting construction inspections. - Provide technical services under the guidance of the Public Works & Utilities Development Manager and City Engineer. Responsibilities include a focus on Public Works permit processing and inspection management using the Enterprise, Permitting, and Licensing software.
- Act as the lead for managing Pavement and Striping Permit and Right-of-Way Permit applications, including: plan review, permit processing, pre-construction meetings, inspection oversight and project/permit close-out.
- Assist in processing Site Improvement Permits, coordinate pre-construction meetings, manage field change requests, provide inspection oversight, and assist in project close-out reviews.
- Oversee the streetlight maintenance program in coordination with the City Engineer, managing technical reviews, maintenance contracts, and field inspections.
- Review private development projects for compliance with City codes and standards, ensuring all requirements are met.
- Perform field evaluations and provide technical oversight related to: roadway signing, signals, marking, lighting and work zones.
- Work directly with external agencies to manage all aspects of transportation projects and ensure compliance with regulations and best practices.
- Serve as the technical point of contact for the public regarding permitting processes. Perform sufficiency reviews on permit applications and act as a representative of the Public Works & Utilities Development Manager when required.
- May be required to stay at work overnight to act in a supporting role during storm and hurricane Emergency Operations Center (EOC) operations.
- Drive to and from City work sites. Perform additional duties as assigned. Be available for emergency call-outs.
- In the event of an emergency, all employees are considered essential and may be required to perform duties outside of their normal job description.
- Complete required trainings as specified within the City Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan.
Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Four (4) years of experience coordinating engineering and/or land development projects in Public Works or a similar field is required.
- High school diploma or G.E.D.
- Experience with permitting, licensing, and construction inspection.
- Familiarity with project management principles and civil engineering technology.
- Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office word processing and spreadsheet applications.
- Valid driver license (must obtain State of Florida driver license within thirty (30) days of employment).
PREFERABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, project management, or related field
- Engineering technician certification through the National Institute of Certified Engineering Technicians (NICET) or equivalent program. Engineering coursework at the university level may substitute for NICET certification.
- Experience with engineering software applications.
- Completion of Maintenance of Traffic Training (Must complete within two (2) years)
- Completion of IMSA Level I Signs & Markings (Must complete within two (2) years)
- Completion of IMSA Level II Signs & Markings (Must complete within two (2) years)
- Completion of IMSA Level I Traffic Signals (Must complete within two (2) years)
