Overview
This position will maintain the Bayfront Fountain, Water Gardens, and Art Center Fountain for Parks & Recreation. The Pump Mechanic will operate, maintain and repair all major and minor systems associated with fountain equipment. The primary responsibility of this position is to keep the Bayfront Fountain, Water Gardens and Art Center fountain in good working order, preventing and minimizing equipment downtime, and ensuring safe and sanitary operating conditions.
Responsibilities
* Checks chemical levels at fountains, fills and makes adjustment to automatic or manual chemical feeding systems, services filtration systems, monitors and adjusts flow rates and picks up and drops off facility supplies
* Ensures Bayfront fountain, water Gardens, and art Center Fountain plumbing system is in good working order and works to fix what can be done in house
* Preventative maintenance to all fountains and pumps, feeders, and other mechanized systems to ensure longevity over the course of the fountain service life
* Facility walk throughs to ensure fountains are clean and in safe working conditions
* Communicates with supervisors on status of current repairs or projects and recommends options for system repairs or upgrades
* Reports potential problems or equipment that might need replacement for planning purposes
* Assists staff in proper operation of equipment and troubleshooting fountain or pump issues
* Makes minor purchases that assist with keeping up with the day-to-day operation of the pumps and fountain
* Works on site with repair service technicians to ensure that major repairs and overhauls are being done properly
* Works with service techs on schedule of work, services provided, products required, and other fountain related issues
* Drains fountains for major service or repainting, places orders for equipment and coordinates with vendors and representatives on scheduled services and repairs
* Oversees chemical levels, diagnose minor problems, and standard sanitation issues at fountains and has the knowledge of operating the pumps
* Works on tasks such as litter and debris clean up, painting, planting, pruning, graffiti removal, public restroom maintenance, and special event set up
* Operates outdoor power equipment and power tools
* Assists with irrigation repairs, maintenance of water features and maintenance of playground equipment
* Must complete daily work reports verifying time, equipment, and material used
* Operates motor vehicles, utility vehicles, and pickup trucks with trailers
* Performs other related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work
* Non-Exempt - Full-Time
* Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement

Minimum Qualifications
* High School Diploma / GED
* Two (2) years of experience
Licenses and Certifications
Required
* A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience in pumps and water filtration systems for fountains

Basis of Rating
A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.
