Job Description/Tasks/Responsibilities

  • Is responsible for inspecting products manufactured or processed by EnergySolutions to ensure compliance with industry and regulatory standards. Oversees vendor performance to ensure acceptance of products and services. Performs inspections to ensure established standards-especially those related to design control, procurement, inspection and testing-are maintained and EnergySolutions customers receive high-quality products and services.
  • Provides quality control (QC) oversight and support to ensure compliance with governing requirements and to help ensure high-quality products and services for EnergySolutions customers.
  • Develops and maintains QC plans, procedures and checklists used during the inspection of fabrication activities.
  • Performs and documents inspections (e.g., dimensional inspections, in-process inspections, receipt inspections and release inspections) of fabricated and/or purchased components.
  • Performs and documents nondestructive examinations (NDE) on fabricated and/or purchased components.
  • Reviews inspection results and completes reports on inspection activities in accordance with applicable procedures.
  • Performs reviews of vendor-supplied documentation (e.g., welding procedure specifications, performance qualification records, NDE procedures, NDE reports, NDE personnel qualifications/certifications and inspection and test plans and procedures) for compliance with design, procurement and procedural documents.
  • Performs independent project surveillances as assigned.
  • Provides direction and guidance to vendors on QC matters.
  • Supports the resolution of nonconforming conditions.
  • Provides direction and guidance to QC Inspector 1 and QC Inspector 2 workers and provide training and examinations for Level 1 and 2 personnel, including certification in approved methods.
  • Responsible for assuring qualified inspection, test, and Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) personnel are assigned to inspections. Coordinates with operations to facilitate inspections.
  • Responsible for oversight of adequate implementation on shop floor (e.g., during inspections verifies Worker Protection Standard (WPS), drawing revisions, etc.).
  • Assures receipt inspections are performed. Coordinates with suppliers to resolve QUALITY receipt inspections. Coordinates with operations to facilitate inspections and priority.
  • Assures items are identified, marked traceable, etc., during inspections. Includes traceability to traveler.
  • Ensures QC Team verifies adequate WPS, Welder identification, and filler material during performance of inspections (part of the acceptance criteria for any weld process).
  • Assures inspection, test, and operating status is adequate during performance of inspections.
  • Implements and verifies adequate implementation of disposition, as specified in the Non-Conformance Report (NCR). Applies and removes tags, as appropriate.
  • Assures QC documentation is adequate prior to submittal to the Document Specialist and/or QC Manager.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements/Skills

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office products
  • Proven ability to read and interpret engineering design drawings, including standard weld symbols
  • Demonstrated ability to properly use various measuring and test equipment to perform inspection, examination and testing activities (e.g., micrometers, calipers, thickness gauges and torque wrenches)
  • Demonstrated ability to set up and calibrate equipment and to interpret evaluation results with respect to applicable codes, standards and specifications
  • Detailed knowledge of developing inspection plans and source verification plans
  • Detailed knowledge of performing vendor evaluations
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, qualify and approve inspection procedures, including establishing and approving nondestructive examination (NDE) techniques
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and AWS codes, standards, specifications and procedures and to designate the specific nondestructive test (NDT) methods, techniques and procedures to be used
  • Ability to operate basic computer programs (for example Word, Excel)
  • Capable of reading Jaeger number 2 or equivalent type and size letters at a distance of not less than 12 inches on a standard Jaeger test chart (with or without correction).
  • Ability to distinguish and differentiate contrast between colors used in the inspection/test method (e.g., Ishihara's tests for color blindness, or equivalent).

  • Ability to work with moving objects/hazardous machines and slippery/uneven walking surfaces
  • Ability to work alone, work with others, and interact with the public
  • Ability to drive a vehicle, travel overnight and perform under deadline pressure
