POSITION OVERVIEW JGM is seeking a talented QC Inspector to join our growing team! The perfect candidate is a professional who thrives on tackling challenges in an exciting, fast-paced environment. This position will inspect raw materials, in-process work and finished products for conformance to shop drawings, specifications, and codes by performing the below duties. Under the guidance of the Quality Control Manager, the QC Inspector will be responsible for:
  • Performs complete layout inspection by measuring dimensions, such as length, height, and distance, between reference points, using precision instruments such as micrometers, calipers, dial indicator, to ensure product meets drawings and specifications.
  • Able to locate reference point(s) on part and measure dimension such as angle, arc, and radii, using combinations of aids, such as simple and precision measuring instruments as micrometers, calipers, fillet weld gauges, skewed gauge, bridge cam gauge, V-Wac gauge, rulers, etc.
  • Checking that the assembly or production line adheres to standards and procedures and complies with legal requirements.
  • Performs verification on Incoming, In-Process, and Outgoing products.
  • Visually compares work pieces against one another to assess/detect manufacturing variations in processes.
  • Assists and/or trains operators on part visual acceptability, and measurement and process procedures as required.
  • Reports quality problems or findings to Quality Control Manager and follows up to ensure that nonconforming and corrective action has/will take place.
  • Maintains record of inspections and prepares list of defects, interacts with other departments to ensure compliance with specification and to facilitate the acceptance of parts.
  • Keeping measurement equipment operating accurately by following calibration requirements and calling for repairs.
  • Read and understand shop fabrication drawings for steel bridge fabrication.
  • Read and understand specifications.
  • Read and understand codes and code requirements for: Structural Steel, Highway and Railroad bridges, Railroad bridges, State DOT's, Welding & Bolting and Cleaning & Painting
  • Receive and maintain Quality Control Inspection records.
  • Examine raw materials and compare them to ASTM codes.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, diagrams, and confers with management or engineering staff to determine quality and reliability standards.
  • Understand requirements for testing of welds, bolts, blast profile, coats, etc.
  • Visually inspect welds for conformance to code and other required standards.
  • Assist in AISC annual audits.
  • Perform internal audits.
  • Complete NDE training, testing, and certification.
  • Maintain CWI certification.
  • Complete required quality control inspection reports.
  • Perform all duties needed to maintain QA departmental functions daily.
  • Act as liaison to outside inspectors.
  • Review and sign off on NDE/testing P.O. for department as well as PRS and VBB.
  • Determine testing for mechanical requirements on samples.
  • Operate any diagnostic equipment needed to perform the job.
  • Enforce non-conformance procedure as required.
  • Assist in development of Standard Procedure.
  • Help develop monthly quality summaries.
  • Resolve Quality issues due to shop errors or field errors.
  • Performs related duties as needed by supervision.
  • Additional duties may be assigned.
EXPERIENCE
  • Strong knowledge of welding symbols and diagrams, and inspection tools.
  • Highly proficient in reading blueprints and other printed instructional material.
  • Basic Math & Geometry/Trigonometry.
  • Familiar with variety of weld processes: Flux Core Arc Welding (FCAW), Sub Arc Welding (SAW), Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), and/or Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW)
  • Ability to perform and document inspection activities during fabrication and welding of structural piece members.
  • Microsoft Office.
  • CWI preferred, but not required.
REQUIRED SKILLS
  • Self-motivated, collaborative team member.
  • Safety focused. Operates equipment and champions safety initiatives.
EDUCATION
  • High School Degree or GED Equivalent preferred
  • Minimum of three years related experience and/or training in steel fabrication; or an equivalent combination of higher education and experience in the steel fabrication industry or closely related fields.
