The Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) is an integral part of amultidisciplinary treatment team, offering a variety of professional mentalhealth services to prisoners within the Michigan Department of Corrections. The CMHP is responsible for conducting comprehensive psychosocialevaluations, assessments, and providing crisis intervention to individuals who are mentally ill or mentally disabled.
Responsibilities of the Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP):
- Evaluate Referrals: Assess treatment needs for mentally ill or disabled prisoners.
- Group Therapy: Facilitate group sessions using psychoeducation, psychosocial skills, and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT).
- Specialized Therapy: Provide Sex Offender Therapy, Assaultive Offender Therapy, and Substance Use Disorder Treatment as directed.
- Individual Therapy: Offer limited individual therapy per the treatment plan.
- Re-Entry Assessments: Conduct needs assessments for prisoner re-entry and assist with post release placement.
- Behavior Monitoring: Evaluate behavior and recommend changes in treatment levels as necessary.
- Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively with the treatment team.
- Case Management: Coordinate treatment to ensure it meets goals and objectives.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records in compliance with policies.
- Respond to Correspondence: Handle correspondence as per operating procedures.
Qualifications for the QMHP:
- Master's Degree in Social Work, Counseling, or Psychology (accredited).
- Licensed as an LCSW, LPC, or Psychologist in the state of Michigan.
- Strong patient assessment, management, and documentation skills.
- Ability to work with diverse patients and staff as part of a team.
