Job Description

The Joint Staff is responsible for training military forces to respond to crises around the globe. From armed conflict to providing humanitarian support after natural disasters, this force relies on joint training across all military branches, Combatant Commands, and Components to be ready to respond at a moment's notice.

Globally integrated training technologies help prepare senior leaders to make decisions in complex environments, strategically integrate operations and resources globally, and develop a force capable of competing and winning against any adversary or triumph in any disaster.

Huntington Ingalls Industries supports the Joint Staff in building the technical capabilities that this force relies on. We develop exercise planning, data, and simulation systems that mimic real life environments and weapons systems. These simulation environments are integrated with live tactical capabilities so warfighters can train using the exact same systems they use in the fight. We are seeking a skilled Software Engineer with a focus on Quality Assurance (QA) to join our dynamic engineering team. As a Software Engineer, you should have demonstrated ability to learn new and complex technologies, have a drive to contribute new ideas for future development, and be passionate about writing reliable, efficient, and maintainable code.

This role will be instrumental in ensuring the quality and reliability of our software products through rigorous testing and automated test creation. The ideal candidate will possess strong software development skills, experience with automated UI testing frameworks, and a deep understanding of unit testing and regression testing processes. We are looking for a passionate and talented engineer to be a part of a fast-paced, rapidly growing, user-driven development team that is focused on architecting, developing, and maintaining these solutions.

This position will have a hybrid work schedule and may require working onsite periodically in Suffolk, VA at the Joint Staff Complex.

Essential Job Responsibilities

* Strong logical thinking skills and development fundamentals including object-oriented design, data structures, algorithm design, and complexity analysis

* Proficiency, in at least, one modern programming language such as Java, JavaScript, Python, or C++

* Knowledge of best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control, build processes, testing, and operations

* A fast learner with the ability to adapt quickly in a fast-paced, team oriented, environment.

Additional Responsibilities and Experience

* Final Peer Review's: Responsible for conducting final Peer Review's for code changes, ensuring thorough testing and validation before integration, recording and creating automated UI tests during the final PR process to evaluate and implement suitable testing tools to build/maintain a comprehensive regression suite, and monitoring and updating existing macro tests; creating new tests as necessary.

* Unit Testing: Responsible for verifying that unit tests are present and properly integrated into the regression suite, and enforcing the requirement for unit tests on new code modifications; collaborating with developers to ensure coverage.

* Release Management: Responsible for assessing whether the changes are ready for release or should be included in a broader release build, managing the pipeline transition to include triggering CSB scans and running automated regression tests, and to reviewing and analyze test and scan reports ensuring all issues are documented and addressed.

* Issue Investigation and Resolution: Responsible for analyzing test failures and reporting issues, drafting new bugs and discussions for action with development team, and using software development background to troubleshoot and diagnose deployment issues or service failures; manually testing and investigating as needed.

* Continuous Improvement: Responsible for conducting regression test audits to identify and remove redundant or duplicative tests, and remaining up-to-date with latest technology and best practices; recommending improvement to the testing process

Minimum Qualifications

2 years' relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 0 years' experience with Masters in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 6 years' relevant experience

Education requirements may be adjusted for applicable work experience. Work experience may be adjusted for highly specialized knowledge or uniquely application experience.

Preferred Requirements

* Proven experience in a software engineering role with a focus on quality assurance and automated testing.

* Hands-on experience with automated frontend (UI) and backend testing tools.

* Strong understanding of software development life cycle and QA methodologies.

* Ability to analyze and resolve complex issues in a development and testing environment.

* Experience with CI/CD pipelines and version control systems.

* Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across teams.

* Experience with development in a Linux Environment

* Familiarity with git or any Atlassian collaboration tools

Physical Requirements

Adequate visual acuity and manual dexterity for meeting the requirements Software Engineer family.
