DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW:The Food Safety and Quality Assurance Department is responsible for ensuring that the Company meets legal requirements and supplies safe, high-quality produce. The Department does by implementing a comprehensive approach to food safety and quality assurance from seed through its processing facilities.POSITION OVERVIEW:The Quality Assurance Specialist is responsible for ensuring that produce harvested and shipped to customers meets relevant quality specifications. In addition, the Quality Assurance Specialist serves as a conduit between departments on quality issues and seeks solutions to ongoing challenges. It is the responsibility of the Quality Assurance Specialist to follow work instructions, complete all assigned tasks, and complete all required documentation relevant to any QA related issues occurring during duty periods. Communication and teamwork are expected of this individual.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:The core responsibilities of the Quality Control Technician position include, but are not necessarily limited to:
  • Collaborate and communicate with all departments in the company regarding produce quality and concerns.
  • Data entry of QC information. Verifies and handles quality control equipment (scales, thermometers, etc.) utilized to assess quality.
  • Performs quality checks of product (following customer and USDA guidelines) at the field and facility level.
  • Serve as a conduit between the Sales, Harvest, and Shipping Departments regarding quality of product.
  • Reports and documents quality and food safety issues in a timely manner.
  • Conduct food safety tasks under the direction of Food Safety Managers (e.g., environment and water samples, inspections, etc.)
  • Provide training to personnel regarding quality control topics.
  • Assist in responding to customer concerns regarding quality concerns.
  • Supports execution of shelf-life studies.
  • Additional projects and duties as assigned to this position.
QUALIFICATIONS: Required:
  • High school diploma or equivalent (higher education degree, diploma, or a certificate is desired but not required).
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, and as a part of a collaborative team. Ability to prioritize deadlines & projects, including coordinating the efforts of multiple contributors, and establish time frames for completion of projects and assignments.
  • Willingness and ability to embrace and follow the Bonita Packing Co. Employee Handbook. Ability to interact constructively and employees at all levels, upper management, owners, and community members, with diverse personalities and cultures, exercising sensitivity, tact, and diplomacy with an emphasis on flexibility, customer service and professionalism.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, orally and in writing, including effective writing skills to prepare correspondence, various documents and reports, and email with knowledge of correct usage of English language, grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
  • Willingness and ability to meet Bonita Packing and department standards for attendance.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Windows operating systems and related business and communication software and a demonstrated ability to learn and use various campus administrative computing systems and applications with the ability to update and expand skills as needed.

  • Demonstrated experience in the produce industry, including experience reviewing produce quality.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Employee must have the ability to walk, talk, hear, see, speak, concentrate, reach in all directions, stoop, bend, lift up to 60 lbs.
