This position is to ensures the quality of product and services provided by the company. Main responsibilities are working with the QA Manager and the quality staff on key programs such as third party audits, regulatory audits, customer audits, departmental goals and objectives (KPI's), keeps current with quality assurance projects and key performance indicators, ensures continuity of key programs, and acts as a liaison between quality, operations and corporate management in the absence of the Quality Manager. Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensures the quality of product and services by testing product, performing audits of product lines, placing defective products on hold and taking corrective action.
- Supervise and coordinate the activities of the quality assurance team to ensure compliance with company and regulatory standards.
- Develop, implement, and maintain quality control procedures and protocols to ensure product integrity and safety.
- Conduct regular inspections and audits of production processes, equipment, and facilities to identify and address any quality or safety concerns.
- Monitor and analyze production data to identify trends and areas for improvement in quality and efficiency.
- Investigate customer complaints and internal quality issues and implement corrective and preventive actions as needed.
- Manage and assist with department projects to completion.
- Train and mentor quality assurance staff on quality control procedures, best practices, and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with production, engineering, and other departments to implement quality improvement initiatives and resolve quality-related issues.
- Maintain accurate documentation and records related to quality control activities, including inspection reports, test results, and corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant food safety regulations and standards, including HACCP, GMP, and SQF.
- Keeps current with key quality assurance programs and department operation by working closely with the Quality manager.
- Performs other duties including but not limited to handling customer complaints, communicating holds and discrepancies with supervisors and other departments; completing various reports by maintaining bill of materials, the corporate specification system, maintaining hold logs, completing weekly and monthly reports as assigned by the QA Manager
- May participate in the execution of the company's sanitation program.
- Flexibility to work non-standard hours as needed, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Minimum Job Requirements: Education/Certifications and Experience: - High school diploma or GED, required.
- Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Biology, Chemistry, or a related field, preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in quality assurance or quality control in the food manufacturing industry.
- At least 3-5 years in a supervisory role.
- Experience with quality management systems and tools.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: - Proficient use of computer, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote), and other related applications or software.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong knowledge of food safety regulations and standards, including HACCP, GMP, and SQF.
- Bilingual is a plus.
Supervisory Responsibilities: - Work requires supervising and monitoring performance for a regular group of employees or a work unit, including providing input on hiring / disciplinary and work objectives / effectiveness, and realigning work as needed.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort: - Work involves daily exposure to unusual elements such as dirt, dust, fumes, darkness and/or noise. Seasonal exposure to weather elements includes, but is not limited to, extreme temperatures, wetness, and humidity.
- Work environment involves daily exposure to physical risks such as working around mechanical equipment, forklifts, chemical hazards, and electrical hazards.
- Position requires the ability to sitting frequently at a desk, walking around the office and plant; carrying packages up to 50 pounds; utilizing fine dexterity; reaching and kneeling on a daily basis.
