POSITION SUMMARY: The Family Planning Health Educator plays an integral role in the clinical experience of patients who enter the health centers seeking sexual and reproductive health care. Additionally, their work with schools and community-based organizations creates a lasting impact bridging the gap of sexual health education and accessible healthcare services in CHN's neighboring communities. Essential Functions:
Works with center directors and center staff to coordinate family planning education in assigned health centers.Provides individual comprehensive family planning education to family planning patients in the clinic settingTravels between health centers and balance schedule to provide education at multiple sites.Assists with development and implementation of family planning curricula for individuals and group education.Assists with development and implementation of evaluation tools for individual and group education.Documents educational efforts and maintain records of all activities to be reported to the funding source.Works with Director of Health Education to create and order appropriate educational materials.Provides family planning education and outreach in the community that is served by assigned health centers.Facilitates related services for health center patients and CHN staff as appropriate, with respect to their confidentiality and privacy.Performs other related duties, as assignedEDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- Bachelor's degree in health-related field or related discipline required[
- Minimum one (1) year of experience working in a community health setting, including patient/client contact or minimum one (1) year of experience providing sexual and reproductive health education.
- Experience in curriculum facilitation and/or individual counseling preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Educate with enthusiasm and awareness: Provide individual education to patients seeking services at health centers to equip them to make informed decisions about their sexual and reproductive health
- Engage and collaborate: Work with community partners and other community resources to amplify access to sexual and reproductive health information through community building
- Develop and implement: Enhance sexual health curriculum to provide updated and culturally relevant sexual health education in local schools and community-based organizations in NYC.
- Strong verbal and written and verbal communication skills.
- Respect for the rights of individuals to make their own decisions about health care.
- Ability to communicate effectively and display a cordial manner toward individuals from a variety of socio-economic, cultural, and religious backgrounds.
