Job Description :
Title: Quality Control Inspector Department: ISO/QA Repair – New Construction Classification: Hourly / Non-Exempt Responsibilities: Primary responsibilities are to conduct Quality Control inspections of the Vessel New Construction activities with the following objectives: Conduct audits of Vessel Repair activities to ensure procedures are clear and being followed. Conduct audits of New Construction activities to ensure procedures are clear and being followed. Feedback welding defects to responsible Foremen and work with welders to improve performance. Assist foreman with writing employer noncompliance and corrective action documents. Duties: Audit actual vessel Repair/Construction operations to ensure compliance to welding workmanship and quality procedures in the following areas: Welding and Fitting procedures are being followed and meet AWS D.1.1-1.6. Welding rods & wire are correctly stored, handled, and properly disposed of. Welding equipment is setup correctly and process parameters are correctly followed. Tank and Pipeline testing is being performed and recorded following the procedures. Repair/New Construction Yard operations personnel are properly trained and follow established procedures. Plate cutting and metal forming procedures are being followed. Feedback inspection results to Foremen and welder/fitters to improve welding results. Conduct daily inspections of completed jobs for compliance to Work Order requirements. Make sure master and Work Order variations are posted in the Supervisor's office. Report daily inspection activities & non-compliance observations to Supervisors, Ops & Yard Mgr. Performs other duties as assigned by ISO/QA Manager and ISO/QA Coordinator. Education, Experience and Training: 5 to 7 years direct experience on Vessel repairs and new construction activities. CWI License or USCG experience preferred. Demonstrate ability to communicate improvement results with operations Sup/Foremen & welders. Understand company policies and procedures. Special Requirements/Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Must have good communication skills and take good directions from yard manager. Understanding of company quality and environmental manuals and procedures described therein. Must have the knowledge base of Repair & Construction functions to be able to audit yard activities for compliance to procedures and regulations. Must have or be eligible for TWIC card. Physical/Environmental Requirements: Vessel chemical environment. Requires prolonged kneeling, standing, walking, twisting, climbing. Ability to work in varied conditions (i.e.: heat, cold, rain, ice, snow, etc.), inside and outside. Able to work in confined space, heights and operate equipment efficiently and safely. Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position. This job description shows typical requirements of the position within this classification.
