Purpose
The Quality Director for Roseburg Forest Products is responsible for setting vision, direction, standards, and programs related to quality control and quality assurance across all RFP manufacturing facilities. This position has responsibility for ensuring effective processes are in place and utilized. Additionally, the Director is responsible for ensuring proper staffing and training is maintained to ensure all product manufactured at RFP meets our internal, regulatory and customer expectations consistently. This Director oversees hiring, mentoring, and training of staff on their team, as well as developing standards and training for critical production staff across the company. The Quality Director works with business level embedded quality managers as well as facility quality staff charged with the execution of daily quality processes. The Quality Director is a key leader in the Manufacturing Services group, and partners extensively with the Technical Director, Reliability Director, Manufacturing Business Directors, and other leaders across the company.
Key Responsibilities
- Establishes quality standards and supporting programs by studying product and consumer requirements, along with regulatory and industry specific product specifications.
- Develops raw material standards by studying manufacturing and engineering requirements.
- Develop and ensure the consistent execution of quality assurance process.
- Institutes rework standards by devising inspection and physical testing methods and procedures.
- Creates product quality documentation system by writing and updating quality assurance procedures.
- Oversite of RFP Formaldehyde program
- Customer claims review, investigation and necessary follow up testing
- Ensures on going calibration of testing equipment
- Ensures consistent calibration of process equipment and measurement tools
- Variance analysis on specs vs actual results
- Maintains product quality by enforcing quality assurance policies and procedures and government requirements.
- Collaborates with other members of management to develop new product and engineering designs and manufacturing and training methods.
- Prepares product and process quality reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
- Develops a quality assurance staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees.
- Achieves financial objectives by preparing the quality assurance budget, scheduling expenditures, analyzing variances, and initiating corrective actions.

Required Qualifications
- Working knowledge of quality system requirements
- Experience with MS Word, Excel, Project Management and Analytics software
- Strong attention to detail with high level of accuracy and efficiency to meet strict governmental reporting requirements
- Ability to work and communicate well with all levels of management from plant manager to hourly employees
- Proved leader with strong direction setting and motivation strengths
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to successfully and timely complete projects and reports
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and maintain a comprehensive time line for completion of the projects
Preferred Experience and Skills
- BA or BS in appropriate discipline
- Working knowledge of QA/QC requirements in the wood products sector with focus on MDF, plywood, lumber, and EWP
- Experience with QA measuring and testing equipment
- Five to 10 years' experience as QA director
- Knowledge of safety requirements and legal standards
