TITLE: Quality EngineerDEPARTMENT: QualityLOCATION: MPP - Rockwood, TNJOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY:Quality Engineers oversee the development and upkeep of quality standards across all processes. They helpmanage the Quality System, covering planning, assessment, and reporting on quality from conception to customer communication. Quality Engineers aid the Operations Team in delivering high-quality products cost-effectively, punctually, and safely to ensure customer satisfaction.SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Communicate quality concerns to all associates including the Quality Manager and all other interested parties. Formally document those concerns.Review new or revised company products to ensure quality standards are met. Participate in APQP activities (Product Launches). Collaborate with customers on complex quality requirements. Establish and document process controls for quality system elements (e.g., sample size, frequency, FMEA, Control Plan, etc.) Provide support to functional areas regarding process control improvement.Develop, implement, and maintain statistical process controls. Develop, implement, and maintain standards for inspection, testing, evaluation, and reporting.Develop and implement quality-training programs for hourly and salary employees to support customers. Train both the quality team and companywide associates in quality sciences (e.g., statistics, SPC, root cause analysis, data analysis, CMM and other equipment, etc.)Lead problem solving efforts for internal and external issues.Participate in Material Review Board (MRB) activities, including the disposition of discrepant materials and corrective action. Design experiments and metrology studies to solve problems in a data-driven fashion. - Requires proficiency in mathematics, including algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and statistics.Document and champion the 8D process for all customer concerns. Develop and implement corrective/preventive actions to prevent recurrence.Create and track Return Material Authorizations (RMAs)Conduct internal & external audits.Support purchasing in the development of our supplier base and ensure that all specifications and requirements are met. Oversee and review Supplier Development process, ensure that scorecards are communicated, and Supplier Audits performed as designated by the process.Participate in Competitive Edge (Continuous Improvement) initiatives.Maintain 6S standards in personal work areas. (Workplace Organization and Safety)Other related duties assigned, as necessary.SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Must be an excellent communicator, both verbally and written.
- Must possess strong analytical abilities and habit for critical thinking.
- Must understand measurement systems, measurement error, and have a basic understanding of metallurgy.
- Must demonstrate working knowledge in multiple areas of manufacturing.
- Must be a motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and/or in a cross-functional work team environment.
- Must be able to take charge, lead when necessary.
- Must be comfortable and excel in a fast paced, results driven environment.
EDUCATION:
- Bachelor's degree in science or engineering or related field is required. Work experience in an engineering role and a proven history as a minimum requirement.
- Minimum of two years related experience in quality.
- Proficiency with Minitab (or other statistical software) and the Microsoft Office Suite
- Experience with PC-DIMS software, design software (CAD), and PLEX beneficial.
SAFETY REQUIREMENTS: This includes, but is not limited to safety glasses, glasses with side shields, hearing protection, safety shoes, and gloves. Other personal protective gear as required.
